Florida Health Care Plans Selects Allscripts Electronic Health Record

Allscripts, a clinical software company, is to provide Florida Health Care Plans (FHCP) with its "touchworks" electronic health record. This will automate and connect FHCP's multi-specialty group of 70 physicians and mid-level providers.
The Allscripts system brings FHCP's providers instant access to their patients' medical records without relying on paper charts. Allscripts' physician-centric electronic health record improves the delivery of safe, high-quality, cost-effective care by automating common tasks such as prescribing and refilling medications, ordering and viewing tests, and documenting care.
FHCP will also implement the "ihealth" module of touchworks, providing patients with secure, online access to their own personal health record, the ability to request appointments and medication refills online, and the ability to receive personalized health education. This application is provided in partnership with Medem, a physician-patient communications network.
FHCP selected Allscripts for its ease of use, its off-the-shelf non-proprietary technology, and its interoperability with other information technology systems, said Roy Klostermeyer, FHCP's chief information officer.
FHCP will interface the EHR with existing FHCP systems such as practice management, laboratory, and transcription and radiology. The interfaces will enable FHCP to share financial, demographic and clinical information across the organization.
Allscripts report that 70% of patients seek online services such as secure messaging, online refill requests, easy access to and review of lab results, and access to disease management plans.
