Alloptic Announces Support of IEEE 10Gigabit EPON Study Group
Posted on: Friday, 26 May 2006, 18:00 CDT
Alloptic, Inc., a global leader in the design and development of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs), the most widely deployed next generation access network solution, announced its support for the recently formed IEEE 10G EPON study group. A 10G EPON study group was formed within the IEEE 802.3 working group at the March 2006, Denver plenary meeting.
"Alloptic was a founding member of the original IEEE EFM working group and our support for the 10G EPON standard is building on that legacy," said Tom Warner, Chief Technical Officer of Alloptic. "The study group will be building on the rapid success of Ethernet based PON systems have had around the globe. 10 Gbps components are starting to exhibit the same compelling economic curve that its 1Gbps predecessors experienced."
"10G EPON is applicable in multiple environments to support bandwidth-intensive applications that will require fast, reliable, scalable, first-mile connections," said Shane Eleniak, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Alloptic. "Immediate applications include high density MDU applications, business Ethernet services, the delivery of VDSL2 service and wireless backhaul. Additionally, the rapid growth in the number HDTV sets being purchased and the desire by Service Providers to support multiple streams of HDTV per household in the future raises the obvious need for a seamless EPON evolution to meet these foreseen requirements."
10Gbps Ethernet has received a rapid uptake in corporate data centers and it provides a logical step for the last mile to meet the growing bandwidth needs of businesses and the insatiable consumer demands for bandwidth intensive content.
Alloptic is an industry leader in the development and deployment of IEEE Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) technology. Alloptic's access network solution has been deployed around the world and offers the only GEPON solution with five years of field hardened, operational history. The Alloptic solution leverages a standard ITU PON architecture while delivering a gigabit of bandwidth. With a native ability to support traditional TDM voice over an Ethernet-based platform, Alloptic is able to provide today's worry free telephone services while seamlessly supporting next generation services like IP HDTV.
