Sunflower Broadband Selects Quantum Bridge; Quantum Bridge FTTP Solutions to be Deployed in Kansas

Posted on: Monday, 23 June 2003, 06:00 CDT

ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 23, 2003--Quantum Bridge Communications(R), Inc., a leading developer of Fiber to the Premises solutions, today announced its selection by leading independent cable operator Sunflower Broadband, to provide the passive optical networking (PON) infrastructure for a regional network delivering broadband services to businesses in Kansas. Sunflower Broadband is the leading regional provider of broadband video, data and voice services with over 80% of all homes served in the Lawrence, Eudora and Douglas County area.

Sunflower Broadband is deploying Quantum Bridge's combined Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminal (ONT) solutions in their advanced fiber-optic network in the Lawrence region of Kansas. The use of Quantum Bridge's equipment affords Sunflower the ability to maximize fiber utilization as they continue to provide advanced, broadband services to their business customers. This enables the economical delivery of flexible data and voice services to business customers.

"Quantum Bridge's Fiber to the Premises solution allows us to more effectively leverage our existing fiber infrastructure and cost-effectively deliver converged voice and data services to multiple customers over a single strand of fiber, lowering both capital and operating expenses," said Shane Woodard, Inside Plant Manager for Sunflower Broadband. "Quantum Bridge's superior Quality of Service features - from both the switches and PON technology - provide the most reliable Service Level Agreements with our customers - critical with their time sensitive applications, such as data storage and retrieval, real-time imaging and private line services."

The First Office Application services local businesses throughout the region. Quantum Bridge's carrier-class switch is deployed at Sunflower Broadband's master headend facility in Lawrence. Optical services are delivered to multiple customer endpoints over international industry standard Full Service Access Network (FSAN) compliant PON technology. Applications include 10/100 Mbps pipes for Intranet and Internet access over using 802.1Q VLANs, as well as private line DS1 service.

"We are very pleased to be working with a leading independent operator in the cable industry. We look forward to helping Sunflower Broadband achieve greater profitability as they continue to offer broadband communications services in Kansas," said Tony Zona, president and CEO of Quantum Bridge Communications. "By leveraging existing and new fiber builds, Sunflower Broadband is extending their service offerings to include flexible data and voice services to an under-served business market."
