CHICAGO, May 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. today announced that it has won a multimillion-dollar global networking contract from R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company , the world's premier full- service provider of print and related services, including document-based business-process outsourcing. Specific terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Under the agreement, AT&T will provide an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) based on AT&T's industry-leading Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) platform that prioritizes and directs network traffic -- efficiently and effectively. Since IP is a standardized communications protocol, RR Donnelley will be able to consolidate multiple legacy networking technologies onto a single, secure, reliable and easily scaled network infrastructure that can carry voice, video and other types of data traffic. The AT&T solution will enable RR Donnelley to transition from traditional phone services to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology.
The contract renews and expands an existing strategic relationship in which AT&T provides RR Donnelley with a full range of networking services, including local, long distance and conferencing services. AT&T also provides hosting services to RR Donnelley from one of its 30 Internet data centers (IDCs) around the world.
"We're pleased to have AT&T as our global networking services provider," said Ken O'Brien, chief information officer of RR Donnelley.
