Hospital Group Deploys GraphOn's GO-Global to Migrate From Windows NT Client/Server to Windows 2003/XP Server-Centric, Thin Client Infrastructure

GraphOn Corp. (OTCBB:GOJO), a leading developer of thin client, application publishing and Web-enabling solutions, today announced that the Christian Hospital Center (CHC) Group has purchased 750 concurrent licenses for its GO-Global for Windows software. CHC Group operates a network of hospitals throughout Liege, Belgium, encompassing 19 divisions, six hospitals, nine convalescent homes, 3,100 staff members, and 850 doctors.
GO-Global is a server-centric computing solution that reduces the complexities of application publishing. Centrally running Windows applications can be accessed from any authorized location, platform and operating system, as though they were running locally. Application issues can thereby be solved at the central location, not at individual desktops.
CHC hospitals operate around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With multiple shifts, there are over 3,000 users accessing 2,000 workstations. However, at any given time, only about 750 concurrent users are actively signed-on.
CHC needed to migrate from its older Windows NT-based client/server network towards a more advanced, cost-effective approach using Windows 2003 and XP. Microsoft's licensing policies, however, meant that a direct replacement would be cost-prohibitive. As a result, CHC evaluated alternative solutions to reduce IT infrastructure costs.
"We determined that a server-centric solution would be the most cost-effective," said Luc Ceyssens, CHC director of information services. "After a review of available products, we selected three alternatives - Citrix, Microsoft WTS, and GO-Global for Windows."
"Due to our concurrent-user licensing model, the costs for the GO-Global alternative were far below Citrix and very competitive compared to Microsoft WTS," said Dominique Benoit, sales director at Planet Europe, one of GraphOn EMEA's distributors, based in France. "With WTS, they would need 2,000 per-device licenses or 3,000 per-named-user licenses. As for Citrix, CHC would need to purchase both Citrix and WTS licenses. The GO-Global alternative required only 750 concurrent-user licenses, resulting in a substantially lower cost of ownership."
With the financial analysis favoring the GO-Global solution, CHC initiated a 35-user GO-Global pilot as a proof of concept. During the pilot, a close working relationship was established among CHC's IT department, GraphOn's technical staff in the U.S., and key personnel from Planet Europe. Based on the positive pilot results, CHC selected GO-Global and proceeded to deploy the solution to the entire network.
Today, all CHC applications are centrally published under GO-Global. The solution provides users with two efficient ways to access the applications: either via new Windows-based Terminals (WBTs) currently being deployed to replace older workstations, or using universal Web browser-based access. With browser-based access, users can access the applications via any Web browser on any device.
"This is a particularly useful way to enhance the quality of medical care when a doctor wants to share the view of medical files and pictures with a specialist not based within one of the hospital buildings," said Ceyssens.
