Embedded wireless antenna maker SkyCross has announced an undisclosed investment from Intel Capital, the VC arm of Intel Corp, as the two work together to develop mobile video applications with selected voice and data initiatives.
The Melbourne, Florida-based company develops RF technology for mobile handsets and PC data cards. The company's antennas also are used in wireless access points and consumer devices including mobile video devices.
In January the company closed a $14m round of venture capital financing led by TL Ventures. Previous backers included Korean telecom giant SK Telecom. This latest funding round is again led by TL Ventures.
"We are delighted to be working closely with an internationally recognized technological leader such as Intel," said Dr Chris Morton, CEO of SkyCross. "This collaboration will accelerate our ability to provide technology for important new market segments such as mobile video."
"Consumers want access to more and more content while on the go. Mobile video is at the leading edge of this trend and presents new opportunities for the market," said Keith Kressin, marketing director for Intel's Mobile Platform Group. "Working with innovative companies like SkyCross to develop leading-edge wireless connectivity solutions will enable us to bring a better experience to our customers."
