Alcatel Offers Wireless Local Area Network Products

AIMING to provide both wired and wireless converged mobility solutions, Alcatel has unveiled several wireless local area network (WLAN) products for the enterprise market.

The products are OmniAccess 4012 and 4024 wireless switches, OmniAccess 4102 wireless appliances, and OmniAccess 1200 access points.

Alcatel Singapore Pte Ltd's Southeast Asia enterprise solutions division business development manager Kenny Ng said business mobility is impacted by convergence and new mobility needs.

Ng said the tools complement Alcatel's existing range of data and voice mobility offerings, including wired dynamic and authenticated user mobility, voice-only digital wireless systems and unified communications applications.

The OmniAccess WLAN product family provides the latest platform for voice-over-WLAN, other real-time applications and services.

The OmniAccess 4012 and 4024 wireless switches offer wireless control and wired capabilities. The two products offer access point that can be connected to 10/100 port on wireless switch with one- or two-port Gigabit Ethernet uplink.

Other features include 10/100 megabits per second (Mbps)-TX Ethernet service port for outbound management, 1000Base-SX for fibre with one- or two-port module or 100Base-T for copper (available as option), nine-pin serial connector for console port, and wireless protection system.

The OmniAccess 4102 wireless appliances offer wireless control with wireline connectivity to data centre LAN switch, dual-Gigabit Ethernet uplinks to connect appliances to backbone, and supports up to 36 access points.

The OmniAccess 1200 access point comes with internal radios with optional connectors available for connectivity to external antennae. Enterprises have a choice between multi-mode 802.11 a/b/g and 802.11 b/g versions from this model.

Alcatel Networks MSC Sdn Bhd's country manager for enterprise solutions division C.T. Lim said the new products are on trial by existing customers who are related to the government bodies.

During the launch, Alcatel displayed two mobile Internet protocol (IP) Touch WLAN phones - the Mobile IPTouch 300 and 600. Both are designed for general enterprise applications and industrial environments with push-to- talk functionality. The phones will be launched during the second half of this year.
