Open Country Announces Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 Processor Support In OCM(TM) 3.1

Posted on: Thursday, 1 June 2006, 12:00 CDT

Open Country, a next-generation systems management software company, today announced that its OCM(TM) 3.1 Universal Linux System Management Suite, soon to be unveiled at LinuxWorld Expo/Tokyo 2006, will offer support for the Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 processor line. Through the use of OCM 3.1, Open Country customers leveraging the high-performance Itanium 2 platform will be assured of efficient, repeatable and centralized management for all their Linux-based IT systems. Unlike current generation systems management suppliers with traditional client-server architectures, Open Country has a web-based architecture that leverages the web to dramatically leverage expertise and labor costs.

Initially, Open Country OCM 3.1 will support Itanium(R) 2 processor-based systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.2. Overall, OCM operates on the largest number of Linux distributions worldwide including Red Hat, Novell, Debian, Asianux, CS2C, Red Flag, TurboLinux, Co-Create, Miracle, Haansoft, and several others. The suite allows users to identify and deploy repeatable best practices in systems management under a "solve a problem once" philosophy, significantly increasing IT staff efficiency while reducing the excessive costs associated with provisioning, update deployment, and other systems tasks. Version 3.1 will extend this value while adding new reporting features that facilitate Sarbanes Oxley, HIPPA, and ITIL compliance requirements.

Open Country's support for Intel Itanium 2 processors is possible through its participation in the Intel(R) Early Access Program. The Intel Early Access Program was created for the benefit of its outside development customers, provides access to loaners, special offers, engineering support, application testing, Intel marketing support and other services in order to advance leading-edge applications using Itanium-based architecture.

"Open Country is committed to supporting the broadest, most inclusive array of platforms and distributions for its OCM Linux management suite. Itanium 2 processor coverage in OCM 3.1 is an important part of that commitment," said Michael Grove, President and CEO of Open Country. "Our customers can be assured that with OCM, they can reliably manage what they run both today and tomorrow."

Designed specifically for data intensive workloads, the Intel Itanium(R) 2 processor is a favorite of enterprises running Linux server environments. The processor, built on open industry standards as well as EPIC (Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing) technology, is currently deployed in over 70,000 data centers worldwide, including more than 3/4 of all Global 100 companies.

"Open Country has realized its vision for helping Linux enterprises through its support of Itanium(R) 2 processor-based platforms," said Robin Drummond, president of the Itanium Solutions Alliance. "Open Country's announcement highlights the continued momentum of leading enterprise applications optimizing for Itanium processor-based platforms. With solutions based on the Dual-Core Intel(R) Itanium(R) processor (code-named Montecito) rolling out this summer, the opportunity for the Itanium solutions ecosystem is expanding."

OCM Universal Linux Management helps companies with widely distributed Linux investments easily discover their entire inventory of hardware/software investments, then track installations and updates, deploy security patches, simplify repetitive management tasks, and respond effectively to changing computing needs. The solution offers the scalability, flexibility, fault-resilience, and secure connectivity needed for the most critical systems management chores.

Open Country will be exhibiting at LinuxWorld Expo/Tokyo 2006, May 31 through June 2, at Tokyo Big Sight Convention Center. During the show, visit Open Country at Booth 512, the Itanium Solutions Alliance at booth 510 or the Intel booth or log on to www.opencountry.com.
