AVIVA Networks Launches As the Ultra-High Performance AdvancedTCA/MicroTCA Networking Company
Posted on: Monday, 5 June 2006, 09:00 CDT
AVIVA Networks, Inc. today announced its launch as the Ultra-High Performance AdvancedTCA(R)/MicroTCA(TM) (Telecom Computing Architecture) networking company. Through innovative security and access technology, AVIVA is the first company to deliver ATCA networking solutions based on the most advanced multi-core processor technology available in the market. These solutions will allow service providers to reduce capital expenditures and enterprises to significantly reduce costs while increasing available bandwidth and security across the network.
Today's new generation of services, such as the triple play of voice, data and video, are putting increased demands on carriers and enterprises. Carriers need to provide more robust performance and security for these services, while also creating new revenue-generating services and reducing time-to-market. Enterprises need to better manage their bandwidth as well as the newly converged IP traffic, while at the same time taking advantage of the latest advances in network security and access control. AVIVA's innovative 10Gbit/sec products not only address these pain points but also differentiate network traffic by content type at wire speed -- a first for the ATCA industry. Additionally, these products support software intensive applications and offer a reservoir of future upgrades for the wireless, VOIP and IPTV markets.
"New network applications and services are driving growth," said Paul Sethy, Founder and CEO of AVIVA Networks. "Upgrading network equipment infrastructure is fast becoming a key need for both carriers and enterprises. AVIVA's AdvancedTCA solutions address the pain points of both audiences, helping make their communications services safer and faster, while at the same time offering rich functionality to handle the ever-increasing traffic on the IP backbone. We are looking forward to working as a strong OEM partner with network equipment manufacturers and system integrators in the ATCA market."
Prior to founding AVIVA Networks, Paul Sethy raised $82 million in venture financing and grew AirPrime, Inc. into the market share leader in OEM CDMA wireless modems. A 26-year veteran of Silicon Valley, Sethy also brings to AVIVA experience in marketing and product management at companies such as Xerox, 3Com and HP.
After the sale of AirPrime to Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR), Sethy researched a number of markets and technologies. He determined that the emerging ATCA standards would provide the best platform for new products which would enable both the telecom and enterprise sectors to capitalize on a new generation of network applications and services.
AVIVA's Advanced Mezzanine Card (AdvancedMC(TM)) network blades are designed to address the critical needs of the industry for both enterprises and telecom carriers. The AdvancedMC form factor permits these blades to be used in both standard ATCA and MicroTCA chassis. The AMC10G IP Acceleration card announced today is an ATCA AdvancedMC network processor card that will accelerate network traffic through a unique content-based set of algorithms to ensure that time sensitive packets will be delivered in an uninterrupted stream, while not unnecessarily delaying the remaining traffic. The AMC1000 Security and Encryption card also announced today is an ATCA AdvancedMC network services card that will bring encryption and security capabilities to the market, as well as provide a platform for additional enhanced services, like virus and spam elimination, a huge problem in today's internet environment. By providing demonstrably improved price-performance, AVIVA Networks will reduce capital and operating expenditures for network operators and enterprises alike.
The industry manufacturing consortium PICMG, with over 450 member companies, has sponsored and promoted the AdvancedTCA and AdvancedMC standards specifications, and estimates that the market for ATCA products will be worth approximately $5B by 2007. Some analysts have predicted that the market could potentially grow to more than $15B worldwide by 2010.
At GlobalComm, AVIVA Networks is exhibiting a proof-of-concept design for the AVIVA Networks AMC10G IP Acceleration Card in the PICMG pavilion located at booth 12042-D. The AMC1000 leverages the design platform of the AMC10G product.
