World Wide Packets, a provider of Carrier Ethernet solutions, today announced that ntl:Telewest received Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) certification using products from the World Wide Packets' LightningEdge(R) suite. ntl:Telewest was awarded the certification through the MEF service provider program and is the first European service provider to receive this qualification. The certification was granted to ntl:Telewest's for development of its National Ethernet product which delivers services compliant with MEF specification.

"ntl:Telewest selected World Wide Packets LightningEdge because it offers us a high-performance Carrier Ethernet solution that integrates well with our existing MPLS architecture," said Raul Rusby, director of service providers, ntl:Telewest Business." We were also extremely pleased that World Wide Packets sought MEF certification of its products. We are now able to offer our customers a comprehensive solution that meets global industry standards."

In order to achieve the certification, ntl:Telewest was required to demonstrate that its proposed Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) services were compliant to the MEF standards as tested by the Iometrix test laboratory. World Wide Packets was one of 16 vendors included in the inaugural class of systems certified to comply with MEF "Global Carrier Ethernet Service Definitions."

"The Metro Ethernet Forum has been a great ally in standardizing carrier-class Ethernet deployments around the world," said Dave Curry, president and CEO of World Wide Packets. "ntl:Telewest is a pioneer in the European market and its efforts to develop high performance domestic systems speak volumes to its continued forethought in the industry. World Wide Packets is extremely pleased that ntl:Telewest has gone the extra step in achieving MEF certification as the world moves towards a truly global network."
