Softek Adds Linux Support to Enterprise Data Migration Software Suite

Softek(R) Storage Solutions, the leader in Nonstop Data Mobility(TM) software solutions, today announced expanded operating system support for its Softek Transparent Data Migration Facility (TDMF) data migration software, by adding new capabilities to move data in Linux-attached storage environments. New support for Linux completes Softek's array of supported operating systems within its Enterprise Data Migration product suite, to enable maximum value for IT and storage managers within large- and medium-sized enterprises.
Softek TDMF IP (Internet Protocol) supports version 3.x of the Red Hat Linux operating system, which represents the majority of Linux operating system deployments today. Softek also has become a member of the Red Hat Ready independent software vendor partner program. TDMF IP is the latest addition to Softek's Enterprise Data Migration suite, which as part of Softek's Nonstop Data Mobility solution set, is designed to reduce the cost, complexity and risk of moving data, while maximizing application availability.
According to Gartner research, "Linux has continued to progress beyond the edge of the network into applications in the middle and Web tiers, and has become increasingly visible in database roles. Linux is no longer a niche operating system environment. Users will have expanded options of creating a flexible architecture to pick best-of-breed technologies."(1)
"As businesses increasingly deploy Linux for mission-critical production-level applications, Softek TDMF IP will prove to be an invaluable data migration tool for storage replacement and consolidation projects, as well as for performance improvement activities," said Amena Ali, senior vice president of worldwide marketing and product strategy. "Adding Linux support is a logical next step in the expansion of our Nonstop Data Mobility solution offerings. This helps our customers more easily capitalize on the lower total cost of ownership advantages enabled by open-source operating systems running on Intel and RISC-based architectures."
Softek TDMF IP for Linux includes the company's popular and time-saving Common Console graphical user interface, which allows users to configure, monitor and manage multiple, concurrent heterogeneous migrations, from a single console. This is a particularly useful capability, especially in large enterprise environments where thousands of open systems servers are dispersed throughout the corporate infrastructure.
Softek TDMF IP is available through the company's direct sales force and distributed by its network of global channel partners.
