Jaluna Demonstrates Breakthrough Multi-Core Real-Time Virtualization Technology at GLOBALCOMM 2006

Posted on: Monday, 5 June 2006, 15:00 CDT

Jaluna Inc.:

-- Demonstration proves that real-time and Linux operating systems can run unmodified on Intel(R) Core(TM) microarchitecture using Jaluna virtualization technology

-- Numerous single processor Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and Linux running simultaneously on a multi-processor platform, each executing mobile phone infrastructure applications, is shown

-- Jaluna joins the Intel(R) Communications Alliance program and aligns roadmap for future product development

Jaluna Inc., the Real-Time Virtualization(TM) company demonstrates advanced technology for real-time embedded devices on Intel(R) Core(TM) microarchitecture at GLOBALCOMM 2006 in Chicago. Jaluna is working with Intel to introduce the multi-core virtualization solution by tightly integrating Jaluna OSware(TM) Real-Time Virtualization(TM) software with Intel(R) Virtualization Technology hardware. The demonstration shows how customers can migrate seamlessly to multi-core CPUs and allow the RTOS and Linux operating systems (OSs) to run unmodified on the Intel Core microarchitecture, which is an industry first. Jaluna's entry into the Intel(R) Communications Alliance as an Affiliate member, marks the companies' first combined effort to align engineering teams and product roadmaps to deliver outstanding performance for end users, with little to no impact on the supported OSs execution.

"We chose to work with Jaluna because of their focus on and technology for real-time virtualization software for embedded devices," said Steve Price, product marketing director, Infrastructure Processor Division, Intel. "We are excited to be working together to help our network infrastructure customers push the envelope for innovation, performance and time to market."

"Intel Core microarchitecture is an industry leading solution that has tremendous productivity gains for the networking infrastructure market," said Michel Gien, executive vice president of corporate development, Jaluna. "Adding Jaluna OSware real time virtualization enables customers to rapidly adopt the latest technology. As an Affiliate member of the Intel Communication Alliance, we are committed to continuing our joint efforts to deliver innovative solutions to the market."

Jaluna and Intel are combining their efforts to address the need for virtualization capabilities on multi-core Intel processors for real-time networking infrastructure applications. The combined solution, for demonstration at GLOBALCOMM 2006 (Intel booth: 17038), will show how network infrastructure customers can migrate single threaded OSs and their application stacks to multi-core CPUs. This demonstration consolidates numerous single processor RTOSs and Linux on two Dual Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) processors LV 2.0 GHz, each executing mobile phone infrastructure applications on a shared database. This establishes that legacy software stacks do not need to be re-architected in order to take advantage of Intel multi-core CPUs, while maintaining real-time performance bounds.

About Intel(R) Communications Alliance

The Intel Communications Alliance is a community of communications and embedded developers and solutions providers who share a common vision on the convergence of computing technologies. The member companies within the Alliance are committed to the development of modular, standards based building blocks, platforms, and solutions based on Intel technologies, processors, products, and services. The availability of these standards-based modular building blocks and solutions offer the market greater choice, faster time to profit, and the opportunity to innovate using modular building blocks from multiple levels of integration -- silicon software boards and complete systems.
