Posted on: Monday, 5 June 2006, 21:00 CDT
UPEK(R), Inc., the world's leading brand of fingerprint authentication security solutions, today announced that it is demonstrating biometrics support for the Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) operating system at the Computex Taipei 2006 Technology Show being held June 6-10 in Taipei, Taiwan.
The company will also showcase demonstrations ranging from mobile payments to secure portable storage solutions. The company's product demonstrations at Computex illustrate the growing range of applications for biometrics, including:
-- The first biometrics application supporting the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system;
-- A joint wireless and online payment demonstration with mHave, Inc.;
-- A portable hard disk drive reference design demonstration with Cypress Semiconductor;
-- UPEK's Eikon USB fingerprint reader and the company's award-winning Protector Suite(TM) QL application software;
-- A demonstration of the company's new TCS4 TouchStrip(TM) silicon fingerprint sensor.
Application features for the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system include secure PC log-on and workstation lock with the simple swipe of a finger, single sign-on with UPEK's secure pre-boot authentication, convenient fast-user switching for multiple users, and integration of the new UPEK biometric Credential Provider with the new Credential Provider architecture in Vista. "We're happy to see software vendors like UPEK successfully integrating their own biometric credential provider to harness the enhanced convenience and security of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system," said Oliver D'Hose, Microsoft First User Experience Program Manager. "We look forward to seeing more software vendors demonstrating their solutions in the future."
UPEK will also demonstrate with mHave, Inc., of Foster City, Calif., a series of robust and flexible mobile and online payment options including vendor payments for product purchases and other transfers into and out of bank accounts, and 'cardless' credit card transactions. "mHave believes that fingerprint biometrics is positioned to become an integral part of many everyday transactions," said Marcos Vescovi, mHave Managing Partner. "We are proud to partner with UPEK to integrate our flexible, extensible financial transactions platform with UPEK's market-leading fingerprint biometrics solutions."
Additionally, UPEK will demonstrate biometric applications for portable storage devices using a reference design created in conjunction with Cypress Semiconductor. This reference design for a secure portable hard disk drive features match-on-chip, hardware-based authentication for data and privacy protection, Protector Suite Token application software for simplified access to data, applications and websites, and an end-to-end solution to ensure plug-and-play ease of use and eliminate the need to download software on a host PC.
The company will also showcase its new Eikon USB fingerprint reader. UPEK's "trusted endpoint" security architecture is designed to provide trust in the unprotected environments of the PC, the network and the Internet. The Eikon fingerprint reader can help home PC users avoid phishing scams and be confident that online banking and shopping sites are legitimate, as well as aid online service providers in activating devices remotely and provisioning users for maximum security and convenience. Software development kits available for the Eikon ensure fast time-to-market and reduced integration costs for third party application providers.
UPEK will also demo the TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor (TCS4) designed to make life more convenient by protecting privacy and providing access to online and mobile applications with the simple swipe of a finger.
"We're proud to be working with Microsoft and to be providing biometrics applications running on Vista," stated Greg Goelz, UPEK vice president of marketing. "Our partners and customers represent some of the most advanced thinking today on how to commercially deploy biometric-enabled products for the benefit of their users. Every day new biometrics applications are created with the potential to enhance the way people conduct business and their personal lives with added security and convenience."
