Vitesse Demonstrates Industry's First Gigabit Ethernet Wireless Broadband Gateway Solution for the SME and SOHO Markets; Integrated Solution Supports Industry Leading Technology Offered By Intoto, Ralink Technology and Star Semiconductor

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:VTSS), the market leader in Gigabit Ethernet ICs, today announced that it will showcase the industry's first integrated Gigabit Ethernet wireless broadband gateway solution designed to meet the needs of the small and medium enterprise (SME) and small office/home office (SOHO) markets. Vitesse will be demonstrating the company's wireless broadband gateway solution at COMPUTEX Taipei 2006 in One Grand Room, Room No. 1121, which will be held at the Taipei World Trade Center held on June 6-10.
Vitesse's Gigabit Ethernet wireless broadband gateway solution incorporates industry-leading technologies offered by Intoto, Ralink Technology and Star Semiconductor. The increase in demand for Gigabit Ethernet and the 802.11n standard has been driven by the high bandwidth requirements of the SME/SOHO markets for higher levels of performance, storage, web-applications with rich presentations and large data movement from databases. With the emergence of the 802.11n standard, large-scale deployments of Gigabit Ethernet will also become more prevalent as Fast Ethernet will not be able to keep up with the increased bandwidth demands of 802.11n networks and bandwidth intensive applications such as IPTV, Large File Sharing, VoIP and Quality of Service (QoS).
"Wireless technology has become a critical business tool for today's SME/SOHO market," said Martyn Humphries, vice president and general manager of the Ethernet Products Division at Vitesse. "This solution is the first of its kind, a wireless broadband gateway solution using industry leading Gigabit Ethernet technology from Vitesse. ODMs and OEMs will be able to take advantage of our wireless turnkey solution utilizing the best of breed products from Vitesse and our leading solution partners."
Vitesse's Gigabit Ethernet wireless broadband gateway solution combines Intoto's iGateway RGS Standard -- a complete software platform with network access, wireless LAN security, and firewall; and Ralink Technology's wireless LAN chipset, the MIMO XR(TM) which sustains high throughput at long distances through MIMO-MRC technology and supports all standard-based features and requirements such as security, quality of service and international regulatory, thus providing end-users with higher performance than legacy devices. Star Semiconductor will also be providing its CPU for the solution. Star's Orion family of ARM9 based processors (STR9100/9200 series) consists of Gigabit interfaces to enable 1000 Mbps performance in SOHO and home applications. The STR9100/9200 family provides networking vendors a single chip solution with integrated Gigabit Ethernet MAC's, USB 2.0 host PHY's and controllers, PCI 33/66Mhz Host, 32/16-bit DDR memory controller and internal high performance hardware acceleration engines for NAT and Layer 7 content inspection.
