Availl and Network Engines Sign OEM Agreement for Availl WAFS Software

Posted on: Tuesday, 6 June 2006, 09:00 CDT

Availl, Inc., a leading WAFS vendor and provider of real-time data and storage software, and Network Engines (NASDAQ: NENG), a leading appliance partner for Microsoft(R) security solutions, announced that the two companies have signed an OEM agreement to license Availl WAFS software. The software will be included in Network Engines' line of Windows powered appliance product offerings. The first such appliance is the DBX appliance built by Network Engines to power the Getronics' Managed Branch solution, which was announced separately today.

As Microsoft server deployments at branch offices continue in strong demand, the Availl and Network Engines deal allows IT staffs to provide local file access performance at each remote site, with files shared across a Wide Area Network (WAN) -- and even for large files shared by many collaborators in different remote locations. At the same time Availl's technology eliminates 95 percent of bandwidth to remote offices and provides true continuous data protection (CDP) for remote office backup consolidation.

"We're pleased to see the new range of offerings from Availl and Network Engines to provide our mutual customers with secure, efficient branch infrastructure solutions," said Adam Bogobowicz, Sr. Product Manager at Microsoft. "Leveraging the branch management and WAN efficiency enhancements in Windows Server 2003 R2, solutions like this can streamline remote office data needs while assuring optimal file access performance, remote backup consolidation and minimal bandwidth usage."

"Network Engines' newly formed relationship with Availl allows us to expand the scope of our appliance offerings and bridge the needs of our customers as they look to consolidate security, storage, networking and infrastructure needs whilst leveraging our appliance platforms to reduce the complexity of deployment and management," said Greg Shortell, CEO of Network Engines. "The growing demand for shared use of information is sure to only increase as companies become more global and expand their collaboration. You need look no further than the example of Getronics with their newly announced Managed Branch solution as an example of the power of an appliance to deliver a suite of software as a service into the distributed enterprise market."

Availl was the first to marry WAFS and CDP technology for a single solution to remote office computing needs. Unlike other WAN optimization or application acceleration approaches which focus only on network acceleration of consolidated data, Availl WAFS is true real-time server-to-server mirror which delivers instant file access, with 100% file version and file lock coherence everywhere.

Network Engines is a leading developer and manufacturer of storage and security appliances. The Company works with its partners to develop storage and security appliances for mission critical business applications.
