"Microsoft has used its vast technology expertise and developer network to provide an innovative platform solution that will enable businesses to optimize RFID technology to create greater supply chain efficiencies," said James B. McWilson, senior vice president of Sales the Americas and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), Printronix. "We're proud to align with them as they unveil an RFID solution that will greatly improve the customer's ability to experience all the benefits of RFID."

Businesses around the world are evaluating how RFID technologies can enable them to streamline business processes and provide real-time visibility into their supply chain. However, adoption of RFID is hindered by many factors, including complexity of device management and costly integration with existing business applications. Printronix supported Microsoft in its effort to deliver an RFID solution that overcomes these hurdles and stimulates faster adoption of RFID.

"Today's RFID solutions require close alignment of RFID hardware and devices with the software used to manage RFID data and events," said Burley Kawasaki, group product manager in the BizTalk Server product management group at Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft recognizes Printronix as a leading provider of ultra-high frequency (UHF), electronic product code (EPC) printers, and we are pleased to work with Printronix to offer integration between hardware and back-end applications and business processes."

Printronix was the first to market with a UHF EPC printer, and has leveraged its RFID installation experiences with top suppliers to Wal-Mart, the Department of Defense, Target, Albertsons and Best Buy to create its RFID product and solutions portfolio. The company shared its RFID encoding and printing knowledge with the Microsoft development team and contributed RFID printers to Microsoft's technology centers in Redmond, Wash.; Paris; Beijing; and Bangalore, India, among other locations. These contributions helped Microsoft to replicate real-world RFID applications in a lab environment and develop an infrastructure that enables companies worldwide to track and ship merchandise more effectively using RFID.
