SES AMERICOM, an SES GLOBAL company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg stock exchanges: SESG), has announced that it has won a multi-year contract from Local Communications Network, Inc. (LCN) to provide C- band satellite bandwidth on AMC-12. The bandwidth will allow LCN to double its satellite network capacity in Africa.
"Satellite services are critical to the communication infrastructure of Africa due to current challenges in terrestrial-based fiber-optic lines within the continent," said Brent Bruun, President SES AMERICOM's Managed Solutions Division. "As demand for LCN's network services increase, we are eager and proud to provide them with the necessary bandwidth required to meet their business objectives."
LCN is a provider of high-speed wireless communications specializing in end-to-end custom broadband solutions and is an FCC-licensed carrier. Its clients in Africa include small and medium enterprises, Internet service providers and government agencies.
"We had to act quickly in order to support our existing and future customer needs in Africa and SES AMERICOM helped us do that. As part of our expansion process we added additional Hub and IP/IT equipment to support the growing demand for our networking services. After seeing the response to our expansion efforts, we are confident that our business will more than double by the second quarter of 2006," said Bob Mcnanley, President and CEO of LCN.
Located at 37.5 degrees W.L, AMC-12 is an advanced, C-band satellite serves local, transcontinental and transoceanic customers throughout the Atlantic Region, including North America, the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Africa -- providing links to the world's premier regional satellite systems. Launched in February 2005, this high-powered spacecraft offers unprecedented levels of C-band performance throughout its vast footprint.
