Company's Shipments Skyrocket to Meet Demand for
Fiber-Extension over Copper
¶ Ikanos Communications, developer of Smart Silicon for Profitable Broadband(TM), today announced that worldwide shipments for its programmable chipsets have exceeded two million ports since volume production began less than 18 months ago. Ikanos doubled its port shipment from 1 to 2 million ports since late October 2003 when Ikanos first publicly announced shipment status. Ikanos has seen a tremendous uptake for its chipsets in Asia and Europe, where the demand for high-speed broadband is growing rapidly. Ikanos programmable chipsets allow telecom carriers to dramatically accelerate provisioning of applications such as Fiber to the Home (FTTH), Fiber to the Premises (FTTP), and VDSL services. ¶"Ikanos continues to surpass revenue targets and port shipments, which stands as a powerful testament to the company's products and the team's execution to date," said Rajesh Vashist, president and CEO of Ikanos Communications. "Ikanos' vision is to enable carriers worldwide to connect every consumer at 100 Mbps quickly and cost effectively. Ikanos is well positioned to achieve this goal. We are the only company today to deliver 100 Mbps chipsets over copper in volume, making our solution a natural adjunct to fiber networks. By extending fiber services over existing copper, bandwidth ubiquity is achievable in weeks and months instead of years."¶ Ikanos Communications: Market Leader in Driving Fiber-Speeds Over Copper Ikanos chipset solutions include the Fx(TM) family, designed for integration into Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) and Optical Network Units (ONUs) to extend FTTP, FTTH, FTTB, FTTC (Premises/Home/Building/Curb) services to the subscriber premise at up to 100 Mbps. (Editor's Note: See today's release "Ikanos Communications Fx(TM) Family of Fiber Extension Products Makes Delivery of 100 Mbps to Every Consumer a Reality.") ¶ Ikanos solutions also include the SmartLeap(TM) Very High-Bit Rate Digital Subscriber Line-Discrete Multi-Tone (VDSL-DMT) family of chipsets, used in DSLAM equipment to deliver ultra high-speed services to Multi Tenant/Dwelling Units (MxUs) from the Central Office (CO) or Remote Terminals (RTs). ¶ The world's leading equipment suppliers currently ship Ikanos-based solutions. Ikanos' announced customers include: NEC and Sumitomo Electric in Japan; Samsung, Millinet, Dasan, and Woojyun Systec in Korea; Marconi (MONI) in Europe; and Zyxel Communications Corporation (TAI: 2391.TW) in Taiwan. ¶ Carriers can now serve the Fiber to the Premises/Home (FTTP/FTTH), Multi-Tenant/Multi-Dwelling Unit (MxU), and Central Office/Remote Terminal (CO/RT) markets, providing tiered services that scale on demand from the central office or Network Operating Centers (NOCs) eliminating truck-rolls. The highly integrated architecture allows Ikanos to offer industry-leading port density and enables the design of smaller, simpler products with fewer chip counts. Further, Ikanos provides on-chip QoS to ensure superior performance guarantees and service level agreements.
¶ About Ikanos Communications
¶ Founded in 1999 and based in the Silicon Valley, Ikanos Communications develops and markets highly programmable chipsets that exceed 100 Mbps over a single copper pair. Ikanos' silicon solutions enable access equipment vendors to serve many different customers while slashing time to market and lowering development, manufacturing, and inventory costs. ¶ Ikanos is the first mover in the fiber extension over copper market and was the first to introduce VDSL-DMT line code technology, which is now the dominant technology for VDSL. Ikanos works closely with both equipment vendors and carriers worldwide to optimize its technology for each market. To date, Ikanos' technology is deployed in some of the largest carrier networks in the world in Japan, Korea and in Europe. Ikanos' comprehensive offering encompasses silicon, embedded software, reference designs, high-level APIs, and extensive documentation. Ikanos is a member of, and contributes to, ANSI, the IEEE 802.3 EFM Study Group, DSL Forum, and ITU-T.
