FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and business, today reported that it has shipped more than 100,000 of its award-winning MediaLounge Wireless Media Players to consumers worldwide since they were introduced 18 months ago.

"Hitting the 100,000th unit shipped plateau is a major milestone for D-Link and our MediaLounge product line, which is taking a strong position in both technical innovation and market share in the emerging digital home segment," said Steven Joe, president and CEO of D-Link Systems, Inc. "We see the digital home entertainment products heading toward mainstream adoption as the technology continues to evolve and converge networking-based platforms that tightly integrate and deliver music, movie and video entertainment services."

Media players like D-Link's DSM-320, DSM-520, DSM-120 and DSM-320RD are part of the fastest growing segment of the digital home entertainment market, according to the latest research by the Consumer Electronics Association.

The CEA's "5 Technologies to Watch" report states that while consumer demand for larger, thinner and high definition (HDTV) television continues to grow at a steady rate, it is serving as "the catalyst for other technology evolution as well, namely digital content that can be shared and viewed throughout the home network of TVs, PCs, iPods and other portable devices, and the Internet."

Another survey by CE Pro Magazine revealed that the purchase of media players by consumer electronics integrators and custom installers increased 60 percent in 2005, the same rate as the sale of both front and rear projection televisions.

Shortly after the first D-Link media players were introduced, the company announced that the new products supported Microsoft's Windows Media Connect (WMC) software for streaming copy-protected digital entertainment throughout the home, and received Microsoft's PlaysForSure logo certification, guaranteeing that PlaysForSure digital music, movies and other premium content will play on D-Link MediaLounge players.

"By partnering with industry-leading content providers, our media players offer consumers excellent quality options, such as Radio@AOL, RealNetworks' Rhapsody, Napster, Live365, MyKidsTunes, vTuner, and MusicMatch, to give the widest range of entertainment choices along with the MediaLounge capabilities for creating and enjoying personal music, movies, videos, photo collections and slideshows," Joe added.

The MediaLounge DSM-320 is the winner of several editor's choice and innovations awards from leading print and online publications.

The latest version of D-Link's MediaLounge family is the DSM-5210R, the first wireless streaming media server with built-in high-definition video technology, 100 gigabytes of storage capacity and a five-in-one media card reader. Several media formats are supported, including HD video with either Windows Media Video 9 or MPEG-4, XviD video and Ogg Vorbis audio.
