SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Blade Network Technologies Inc. (BLADE), the leading provider of network infrastructure to the blade server market, today announced the release of a new Gigabit Ethernet switch module for HP BladeSystem c-Class. The switch offers unparalleled security and performance at an economical price, and seamlessly integrates HP BladeSystem into any Ethernet network infrastructure.
The HP GbE2c Ethernet Blade Switch (GbE2c), developed by Blade Network Technologies through HP's BladeSystem Solution Builder Program, and designed specifically for the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure, will enable enterprises to build secure, high-performance, and change-ready infrastructures. The switch can eliminate up to 94 percent of cabling compared to other connection options reducing data center costs and complexity. The switch will be marketed and sold under the HP brand.
The GbE2c switch is also fully compliant with the European Union's Restriction on Hazardous Materials (RoHS) directive.
"As the number one provider of blade server networking equipment, we are pleased to offer HP a switch that will lead the pack in price and performance for HP BladeSystem customers," Blade Network Technologies President and CEO Vikram Mehta said. "This switch will enable customers to deploy secure, high speed and intelligent switching now, and add advanced Layer 3 features -- via a field upgrade -- as their application needs change in the future. This is a unique advantage for the GbE2c switch customers."
"By partnering with Blade Network Technologies, we can deliver our next generation BladeSystem with leading networking devices out of the box," said Paul Miller, vice president, marketing, Industry Standard Servers and HP BladeSystem. "The new switch is a key component of the BladeSystem unified IT infrastructure, and strengthens our ability to meet customer demands both now and in the future."
The GbE2c switch provides wire-speed switching of incoming and outgoing network traffic at speeds up to 48 Gigabits per second, and can be deployed in pairs into 8 available slots within the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure to offer a high degree of redundancy and failover. Its modular design offers a cost-savvy and secure alternative to HP's Patch Panel. For significant cost savings over a patch panel solution, the GbE2c can reduce network cabling, provide more bandwidth for applications, and ensure that blade server data is secure from internal threats.
GbE2c firmware provides a full set of Layer 2 security and high availability features for mission-critical applications, and seamlessly integrates into Cisco(R) based networks. The GbE2c switch can be deployed out of the box with the default configuration, saving administration time and overhead. Additional configuration can be performed using either the Command Line Interface (CLI), or Web-based management interface. Full support for SNMP v1/2/3 allows sophisticated administrators to configure and manage the switch through SNMP. In addition, the system is field upgradeable to full Layer 3 functionality including dynamic routing, static routing, and Quality of Service (QoS).
