KDDI R&D Labs to Showcase H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Encoder/Decoder
Posted on: Monday, 12 April 2004, 06:00 CDT
PALO ALTO, Calif., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- KDDI R&D Laboratories, a division of Japan's global telecommunications company KDDI Corporation, will introduce its H.264/MPEG-4 AVC encoder/decoder, MPEG authoring and transmission software for the professional and "prosumer" markets at the NAB 2004 Show in Las Vegas from April 19 to April 22, 2004. The featured products and technologies are recently standardized H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and MPEG-2/MPEG-4 solutions for broadband, mobile and HDTV applications including:
1) MP-Factory ver.4.0 -- Universal MPEG SDK for MPEG-1/-2/-4 and
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC standards featuring: real-time
encoding/decoding/transcoding, frame accurate fast editing, fast
audio/video bitrate conversion, and content-based fast audio/video
indexing. The product also supports fast H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
encoding/decoding. Common and useful APIs for each MPEG format are
provided for Windows, MAC, Linux, and UNIX operating systems.
2) MPEG Intelli Player ver.1.2 -- Professional MPEG-1/-2/-4 and
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC software player for frame accurate playback,
intelligent trick play and mark-in/out operations with MPEG (IBP)
files. Users can easily play back MPEG-2 SDTV and HDTV, MPEG-4 and
H.264 files, and can browse or find desired scenes using fast/slow,
single-step and forward/reverse playback capabilities with audio
scrubbing.
3) MPEG Edit Studio Pro ver.1.3 -- High-quality nonlinear MPEG-4, HDTV
MPEG-2, and recently standardized HDV (High Definition Video) editing
tool used for high quality broadband video streaming and digital TV
broadcasts. It provides nearly degradation free, frame accurate, fast
MPEG-4/MPEG-2/HDV editing for IBP. MPEG Edit Studio Pro features fast
logo insertion, scene indexing, a variety of media conversion
capabilities including the latest video coding standard, H.264/MPEG-4
AVC, and a software-based HDTV player with a jog/shuttle controller
that greatly shortens the time-consuming editing process.
4) MPmark -- supports H.264/MPEG-4 AVC and MP3 audio as well as
MPEG-2/-4 video. A new feature: watermarks can be embedded in
compressed media data directly. MPmark now supports both compressed
and uncompressed media data, so it can offer the best watermark
solutions for the format of the source media and watermark usage. The
watermark can be detected directly from the MPEG compressed bit
stream. Both the embedding and detection process move at extremely
high speeds. An SDK is provided to allow developers to create
watermark embedding/detection software.
5) Highlight Creator -- The world's first automatic summarization
software for MPEG-1/-2 video. Based on KDDI's proprietary fast and
accurate content analysis technology, Highlight Creator summarizes
input video in two forms, "Skimming" and "Highlights," and converts
summarized video into various formats for streaming and mobile use.
"Skimming" is an outline version of the original content with
preferred duration (e.g. movie storyboard) while "Highlights" is a
series of exciting events (i.e. sports highlights). Highlight Creator
can also support MPEG-7 based metadata description according to
automatically extracted summaries.
6) 3GPP2 Movie Creator Family -- Video content encoding and authoring
software for mobile applications such as "EZmovie.""EZmovie" is
KDDI's 3rd generation mobile video application based on MPEG-4 and
3GPP2 file format standards together with KDDI's proprietary
technology. A sophisticated MPEG-4 encoding engine allows high quality
compression to be achieved. Conversion gateway software and an SDK for
creating an "EZmovie" file are provided.
7) Digivits -- Provides integrated video transmission monitoring by
automatically measuring video quality at each remote link point in the
transmission chain. Reduced Reference (RR) and in-service test signal
(ISTS) methods are supported for video quality metrics. Proprietary
technologies for RR and ISTS metrics make highly reliable and precise
video quality measurement possible and thus invaluable for
broadcasters and communication carriers.
8) VISIONTRANS/VistaFinder/VAST-ip-
VISIONTRANS: PAL/NTSC TV standard conversion software is provided as
an SDK for third party system integration. It is a software
implementation of KDDI's proprietary TV standard hardware converter,
and its picture quality is guaranteed by front-line performance in TV
transmission of past Olympic Games. The software is highly tuned to
achieve high speed conversion on ordinary PCs.
VistaFinder/VAST-ip: VistaFinder and VAST-ip solutions are
broadcaster quality video transmission systems for IP networks.
VistaFinder is a portable system, and VAST-ip is a station -installed
system. Both systems support high speed, reliable transmission
protocol, and provide stable picture quality over any kind of network.
VistaFinder now supports H.264/MPEG-4 AVC to achieve higher picture
quality and faster video material transmission.
9) VISION-SW -- automatically switches parallel TV transmission links
when a transmission failure occurs, thereby preventing the delivery of
incomplete pictures. Monitoring is done by comparing two base-band
received pictures. When both links are normal, it utilizes both
pictures to improve the picture quality. In addition, it can estimate
the quality of the received pictures.
10) DHS-2000 -- Hardware HDTV codec that enables low delay and high
quality transmission (50~100Mbps) of HDTV programs based on a JPEG2000
coding framework with newly introduced coding technologies.
The technologies developed by KDDI R&D Labs are available for licensing, distribution or OEM to companies worldwide. Potential customers include multimedia, DVD, and broadband content production companies; software companies, broadcasters, MPEG encoder manufactures, and system integrators. For mobile applications, customers include wireless carriers, service providers, solution companies and content producers.
