Kuwaiti Mtc Wins Mobile Phone Network Management Bid

According to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper (April 7, 2004), the Lebanese Telecommunications Ministry has selected the Kuwait's Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) to manage the LibanCell mobile phone network. MTC was awarded the contract after the ministry selected Detecon International to manage the country's second cellular phone network, Cellis, for a four-years
. Libancell and Cellis have been operating the networks for $15 million a month, which government officials and experts consider too high. The government hopes to save at least $3 million a month from the new contracts. The Telecommunications Ministry last month invited bids for "an international public tender" to manage the two GSM, or Global System for Mobile communications, networks. The Mobile Telecommunications Company, which was founded in 1983, is a pioneered mobile and paging services in Kuwait, starting with the ETACS system and the tri-band GSM 900/1800 MHz.Related Articles
