SilverStorm Technologies Awarded Contract to Support Supercomputing Project for ATK Launch Systems; SilverStorm's 9000 Series Multi-Protocol Fabric Directors to Provide 20Gb/S InfiniBand DDR Cluster Computing Interconnect Backbone
Posted on: Friday, 16 June 2006, 09:01 CDT
SilverStorm Technologies, the leader in high performance interconnect solutions for clustered computing, announced today that Linux Networx has ordered a 9000 series Multi-Protocol Fabric Director system to support its supercomputing project for ATK Launch Systems, a leading provider of advanced weapons and space systems. The new supercomputer will increase ATK's compute capability to over 2.24 trillion floating-point operations (TFLOPS) and will be used for structural performance, fluid dynamics, and other aerodynamics and shock physics research applications.
The SilverStorm 9000 Fabric Director system will provide a 20Gb/s InfiniBand DDR interconnect backbone for an AMD Opteron dual processor-based 110-node Linux Networx Custom Supersystem with integrated visualization and a performance-tuned storage system. "SilverStorm is pleased to work with our partner Linux Networx in support of ATK," said Reini Florin, SilverStorm's Vice President of Marketing. "The selection of SilverStorm for this project along with other recent project selections at the Department of Defense and NASA is an endorsement of the value 20Gb/s InfiniBand DDR brings to weapons and space systems research applications compared to other interconnects."
SilverStorm's 9000 series Multi-Protocol Fabric Director is a highly integrated, high performance, cluster computing interconnect system. With a total switching capacity exceeding 11.5Tb/s in a single chassis, the 9000 series is currently the world's highest throughput interconnect system and provides twice the switching capacity of other InfiniBand solutions currently shipping and over four times the capacity of the largest 10Gb/s Ethernet switch available today. Extremely scalable and modular, the 9000 family of products come in chassis configurations supporting up to 24, 12, or 8 common application modules. The chassis can be populated with any combination of InfiniBand SDR (10Gb/s) switch modules, DDR (20Gb/s) switch modules, or Virtual I/O Controller (VIC) modules. VIC modules enable hosts on InfiniBand fabrics to transparently access either Fibre Channel or Ethernet networks. Up to 288 InfiniBand 20Gb/s switch ports, up to 48 10Gb/s Ethernet virtual controller ports and up to 192 Fibre Channel virtual controller ports can be supported in a single chassis. SilverStorm's QuickSilver High Performance Fabric Access and FastFabric software suite provides comprehensive configuration, performance management, diagnostics, and control for the overall interconnect fabric.
