SAN DIEGO and SINGAPORE, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- LightPointe, a designer and manufacturer of optical wireless products based on free-space optics (FSO) technology, has been selected by MobileOne (M1) to provide connectivity for new and existing networks.
M1, a major mobile wireless service provider in the Asia-Pacific region, is deploying LightPointe products in lieu of traditional wireless microwave radio or land-based wired infrastructure such as copper or fiber-optic cable. The connectivity is necessary to provide network coverage for voice and data traffic for M1's growing base of subscribers. LightPointe was selected as M1's optical wireless vendor in a tender with participation of various free- space optics vendors.
"This agreement with M1 underscores the need for optical wireless solutions in several growth markets, including mobile wireless networks where enhanced services are being offered and require higher bandwidth," said John Griffin, LightPointe President and CEO. "Our optical wireless solutions allow mobile operators to expand services and coverage at significantly lower operational costs than traditional leased lines or fiber-optic cable."
M1 is the second carrier in Singapore to be awarded with a mobile license. LightPointe products are also installed in the networks of major U.S., European and Chinese service providers, as well as enterprise customers in 60 countries.
M1 installed LightPointe's popular FlightSpectrum(TM) for its network builds. The FlightSpectrum uses four redundant beam paths to send and receive data, voice or video communications between two points.
"With LightPointe products, M1 has now installed one of the largest optical wireless networks in Asia," said Patrick Michael Scodeller, M1's Chief Technical Officer. "FlightSpectrum's optical bandwidth, high performance and attractive price points ensure that M1 provides the highest customer satisfaction and improved ROI for the rollout of 3G networks."
LightPointe offers the broadest portfolio of optical wireless equipment, with products providing bandwidth from 10 megabits to 2.5 gigabits for both service provider and enterprise customers. LightPointe optical wireless solutions provide a flexible, scalable and cost-effective backhaul alternative for the growing bandwidth needs of next-generation mobile networks. LightPointe optical wireless products are protocol transparent and seamlessly integrate into existing service provider networks.
