Posted on: Tuesday, 20 June 2006, 09:00 CDT
Compete, Inc. today announced the launch of its Travel Practice, a move which will extend its reach and marketing intelligence services into the single largest e-commerce industry. More than 50 million consumers plan and research travel online each month, with over $70 billion in online travel purchases forecasted for 2006. With the launch of its Travel Practice, Compete increases its industry coverage and will provide travel marketers with the real-time insights and intelligence they need to capitalize on the explosive growth of this market.
Already the largest Internet commerce category, online travel continues to grow in usage and importance. An April 2006 Compete survey revealed that 79 percent of recent travelers rely on the Internet as their single most important source of travel information. Recent travelers indicated that of all their travel purchases, 62 percent were transacted online.
"Compete is unique in the marketplace in its ability to benchmark online channel performance among competitors industry-wide," said Dawn Hepper, Director of Online User Experience for Carlson Hotels Worldwide. "In the time we've worked together, our conversion rate has improved significantly and we have every indication that this number will continue to grow."
Compete's travel services analyze consumer travel planning and reservation activities across more than 2,000 travel Web sites in over 20 categories. These services harness Compete's database of over 2 million consumers, the largest consumer behavior database in the industry, and enable detailed analysis of travelers' entire online consideration and booking process. Compete's Travel Practice offers leading agencies, suppliers and other travel marketers unmatched insight into how travelers engage, cross-shop, and convert across all agency and supplier destinations.
"Compete provides the most detailed insights into online consumer travel research and booking behavior available," said Jake Fuller, Hospitality Analyst at Thomas Weisel Partners. "This information is a powerful new source of overall market trends and provides a better understanding of individual agency and supplier performance."
"The competition for traveler attention and loyalty is intensifying," said Gregory Saks, Director of Compete's Travel Practice. "Prompted by ongoing growth in the online travel industry, marketing executives are looking for new ways to improve online channel effectiveness and drive traveler mindshare. With the launch of the Travel Practice, Compete has developed yet another way for leading brands to deepen relationships with consumers."
On June 9, Compete launched the Travel Practice on its corporate Web site. We invite you to visit the new travel Web site at www.compete.com/travel.
