PolyServe's Database Utility for SQL Server Wins 'Most Innovative Product' at Windows IT Media's Best of Tech Ed 2006 Awards

Posted on: Wednesday, 21 June 2006, 09:00 CDT

BEAVERTON, Ore., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Windows IT Media honored the PolyServe Database Utility(TM) for SQL Server with the Best of Tech Ed 2006 Award for Most Innovative Product at Tech Ed 2006 in Boston. The award, presented exclusively to PolyServe out of more than 200 entries, is given only when a product provides such a compelling value to the market that the judges elevate the product into its own category.

Judges Michael Otey, Karen Forster, Diana May, Amy Eisenberg, Jason Bovberg, and Blake Eno reviewed 212 products and services that were submitted for the awards program.

"The winners at Tech Ed 2006 each represent best-in-class technology products. After closely evaluating all entries, our team of editors chose winners based on the products' strategic importance to the market, competitive advantages, value to the customer, and value in the marketplace," said Mike Otey, technical director for Windows IT Media.

"We selected the PolyServe Database Utility for SQL Server as most innovative because it addresses availability and maintenance with a new, forward-thinking approach," comments Mike Otey. "Using a feature called Dynamic Re-Hosting, it enables SQL Server instances to be shifted between different host servers within seconds using a shared store architecture. Dynamic Re-Hosting provides high availability of SQL Server services as well as one-click system maintenance."

"We're honored that our PolyServe Database Utility for SQL Server is recognized as an innovative solution for IT departments challenged by sprawling, uncoordinated SQL Server deployments," said Clark Newby, vice president of marketing, PolyServe. "This award reflects the remarkable level of interest we see in the market, and we're excited to provide that market a better way to manage large-scale SQL Server environments."

The PolyServe Database Utility for SQL Server enables IT organizations to effectively and reliably consolidate up to hundreds of disparate Microsoft(R) SQL Server(TM) databases into a single, easy-to-manage cluster. The Database Utility for SQL Server integrates PolyServe's innovative shared data clustering technology to deliver immediate and long-term consolidation benefits that redefine the economics of SQL Server deployments: reducing by half the number of servers and software installs needed for SQL Server, cutting cluster configuration and management time as much as 75 percent and lowering total cost-of-ownership by often more than 50 percent over three years.

PolyServe's shared data clustering technology offers a unique approach to SQL Server consolidation. With traditional virtual machine technologies, software overhead limits performance, and "big iron" consolidation approaches increase the risk of application failure and incur more cost. Only PolyServe runs directly on Microsoft Server System with no performance degradation and inherent high availability services for all servers, making it the preferred choice for intensive applications like SQL Server databases. With PolyServe's Dynamic Re-Hosting(TM) capabilities, online server maintenance and one-click instance upgrades, the Database Utility provides a perfect platform for hosting SQL Server 2005 databases while reducing management costs and improving database availability.
