Performance Technologies' IPnexus(TM) SBC Powers CloudShield's Network Services Platform

Posted on: Monday, 19 April 2004, 06:00 CDT

ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Performance Technologies today announced CloudShield Technologies, a provider of platforms for Open Network Services(TM), has selected Performance Technologies' IPnexus(TM) ZT 5524e Intel(R) Pentium(R) III Single Board Computer (SBC) to serve as the management module for its optical-speed Network Control System.

CloudShield's capabilities to inspect and transform every bit of every packet at OC-48 line rates provide carriers, service providers, large enterprises and government organizations a centralized, comprehensive approach to controlling and protecting network-based assets. Complementing a customer's existing single-function security and network appliance infrastructure, CloudShield's customizable packet handling environment allows network administrators to immediately react to new security threats and network use challenges.

"A key component of CloudShield's Network Control System, the CA-5000 packet processor is the first device that is purpose-built to achieve 100 percent packet inspection at every network layer. The system also required an internal, standards-based applications platform to support partner and management control applications," said Peder Jungck, founder and CTO of CloudShield Technologies. "The Performance Technologies IPnexus Single Board Computer offered the highest availability and fastest processing power of all the SBCs we considered, and Performance Technologies was immensely helpful in fitting it to our unique requirements."

Performance Technologies' IPnexus ZT 5524e SBC is a high performance, Pentium III processor single board computer based on the PICMG(R) 2.16 specification. It includes a generous set of onboard embedded features and off-the-shelf architecture to address the fundamental integration and reliability requirements of OEMs.

"Our award-winning single board computers provide tremendous throughput capabilities and help speed application development for OEMs such as CloudShield," said Dave Parkinson, director of engineering for Performance Technologies' Computing Products Group. "We will continue to upgrade and enhance our SBC product line with the latest technological advancements to offer enabling products for packet-based systems."
