MILPITAS, Calif., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sipex Corporation today announced the presentation of a Company-sponsored digital power research paper which was presented at the 2006 Power Electronics Specialists Conference (PESC) by the University of Toronto. The focus of PESC is the practical and applied aspects of the power electronics business. The sponsorship of research is part of the "Solved by Sipex" initiative to develop technology and products which provide unique and innovative solutions for the global engineering community.
"Sipex values the importance of sponsoring engineering research and education," said Lee Cleveland, VP of Engineering at Sipex. "This partnership supports the academic community's research efforts and at the same time enables the Company to continue the development of digital power IP for use in future products."
The use of digital solutions for power management ICs allows for the integration of a complete power management system on a single chip, reducing board space requirements and overall system cost while increasing system performance and reliability.
The research presented at PESC introduces a new low power digital controller architecture that provides tight regulation of multiple programmable supply voltages for light loads and allows simple implementation of power management techniques in portable applications. The multiple supplies can utilize one inductor, through the use of patent-pending digital pulse frequency modulation. The design of this controller can easily be transferred from one implementation technology to another, and realizes the very low power consumption in the DPFM required for low-power portable and handheld devices.
The full text of the paper, titled "Programmable Digital Controller for Multi-Output DC-DC Converters with a Time-Shared Inductor," can be found on the Sipex website at: http://www.sipex.com/files/techPapers/PESC_06.pdf.
