ECI Telecom Ranked As No. 1 Transmission Equipment Vendor in India; Underscores ECI's Continued Focus on Emerging Markets
Posted on: Monday, 26 June 2006, 03:00 CDT
ECI Telecom (NASDAQ:ECIL) today announced that Voice & Data, a leading telecom magazine in India published by Cyber Media, one of South East Asia's leading specialty publication houses, ranked ECI Telecom as the #1 transmission equipment vendor in India.
Voice & Data analyzed revenues, growth and market share figures for all leading players of the transmission equipment market in India, including Alcatel, Ericsson, Fibcom, Huawei, Nortel and Siemens. With a 31.3% market share, ECI has nearly twice the market share of Alcatel, ranked second at 16% and Nortel who ranked third.
"In SDH, ECI Telecom is the clear leader," writes Pravin Prashant, associate editor of Voice & Data, in its June 06, 2006 article. "Companies such as Nortel, that occupied the number one slot for a long time, had to vacate it for ECI Telecom."
ECI places a great emphasis on supplying state-of-the-art solutions to the wireless backhaul market, which has been growing significantly. In particular, ECI is focusing on cellular operators in emerging market countries, where the growth rate is measured in several million new subscribers each month.
ECI has been well established in India since the mid 1990s. It has eight offices with local employees across the country, including two R&D facilities. Among its customers in India it lists Bharti Tele-Ventures, Hutchison, Tata Teleservices & Tata Power, as well as GAIL (India) Limited, the Gas Authority of India.
"We are very honored to be recognized as the leading transmission equipment vendor in an important and growing market like India," said Rafi Maor, President and CEO of ECI Telecom. "As the market grows increasingly competitive, ECI is expanding its leadership position in the Asia Pacific region by offering cutting-edge solutions that enable its customers the ability to deliver next-generation services immediately and in a cost-effective manner."
