Oki Techno Creation Launches Equipment to Control Quality for Triple Play Networks; Traffic Protector Provides Best Solution for Private Networks Using Voice, Data and Video

Posted on: Tuesday, 27 June 2006, 00:00 CDT

Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6703) and Oki Techno Creation Co., Ltd., an Oki group company developing and providing information and telecom system products, today announced that Oki Techno Creation has developed "Traffic Protector (TRAPRO(TM))," a QoS control device to enable smoother flow of voice, data and video transmission over a private network. TRAPRO will be exhibited at the Information Security Expo & Conference, and Embedded Systems Expo & Conference, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight in Japan from June 28 to the 30th.

"As many companies are converging their voice and data networks, we believe TRAPRO provides a better communication environment for such companies to improve their business efficiency, productivity and their competitive edge," said Toshikazu Yasuoka, President of Oki Techno Creation. "By monitoring the traffic level, this easy-to-install TRAPRO eliminates breaks in conversations and fuzziness on videos when conducting a telephone or video conference, offering a stress-free communication environment. We plan to provide this to end users as well as system integrators worldwide."

Oki Techno Creation developed the TRAPRO as the QoS control device to maintain stable bandwidth and transmission speed when sending voice and video in a triple play network environment. By simply inserting the stealth-type TRAPRO into the network where QoS needs to be ensured, improved control of QoS can be achieved without the need to make any changes in the existing network. Setting the amount of data and speed of transmission in advance guarantees the network quality when packets are transmitted between offices. It also prioritizes information when real-time transmission is required, and automatically recognizes Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) for voice and video. By setting specific packets and IP addresses, the network environment is controlled not only when voice and video is transmitted, but also when packets are temporarily concentrated.

TRAPRO provides accurate feedback for quality control as it generates numerical log statements for total incoming traffic and monitors traffic conditions by type -- voice, data and video. A maximum of ten TRAPROs can be combined to bundle traffic monitoring operations, by using software called Integrated Manager to manage total traffic function, including monitoring, reporting, alerting, and scheduling.
