Industry-First Product Combines the Power of Google(TM) Earth With Autodesk(R) Revit(R); Avatech's Free Google(TM) Earth-Based Plug-in Combines BIM and GIS
Posted on: Tuesday, 27 June 2006, 09:00 CDT
Avatech Solutions, Inc. (OTCBB: AVSO.OB), the nationwide technology experts for design, engineering and facilities management, announced today the launch of its innovative new product, Avatech Earth Connector for Autodesk(R) Revit(R), a Google(TM) Earth-based plug-in.
"Avatech Earth Connector for Revit is the first product on the market today that combines the advantages of Revit's building information model (BIM) with geospatial information systems (GIS)," said Matt Mason, Avatech's Director of Research and Development. "We are now extending our demonstrated success with the Avatech Earth Connector for AutoCAD(R) to users of Autodesk Revit." Launched in January 2006, Avatech Earth Connector for AutoCAD now has over 2000 users.
Avatech Earth Connector for Revit facilitates cross-functional collaboration by producing a common file format using the Google Earth KMZ standard. Now, after simply sending a file, engineers and architects can let colleagues and clients - both technical and non-technical personnel - easily view sophisticated building information using Google Earth.
To produce this innovative product, Avatech Solutions' Research and Development group leveraged their work on Avatech Earth Connector for AutoCAD and their experience as early developers of Revit automation applications and systems integrations.
Building information models created in Autodesk Revit and viewed using the new tool retain building information, so customers can toggle different building elements such as roofs and walls, and even view specific data such as door and window specifications. This tool makes it easier for architects, engineers, and designers to show the 3D model without multiple translations in its geographic context to owners, construction managers, subcontractors, and any other stakeholders - all while maintaining the intelligence of the model.
"Earth Connector for Revit demonstrates our value-add to the industries we serve and our commitment to helping our customer use technology as a competitive advantage," said Scott Harris, Avatech President and COO. "It's another example of the value of Avatech's industry and technical expertise, and our ability to offer complimentary solutions to the engineering marketplace."
"We are inviting people to download and use the beta version to give us feedback about how we can enhance Avatech Earth Connector for Autodesk Revit functionality," said Mason.
Earth Connector for Revit is currently in beta form and is free to download from the Avatech Web site at http://www.avatech.com/web/earth
