Siemens Joins Public-Private Partnership To Develop Homeland Security Traffic Solutions

Posted on: Thursday, 15 April 2004, 06:00 CDT

ATLANTA, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Energy & Automation today announced it has reached an agreement with E-ViEWS Safety Systems of Agoura Hills, Calif., to join a public-private partnership for the development of E- ITS products and services supporting the emergency responder community.

Siemens' partnership role will be administered by Siemens ITS, its Intelligent Transportation Systems unit based in Austin, Texas.

E-ITS is a term developed by E-ViEWS to identify the use of intelligent transportation systems applied to emergency response in line with Department of Homeland Security guidelines.

E-ViEWS ( http://www.eviewsinc.com/ ), in partnership with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), has pioneered the use of emergency vehicle identification techniques to visually warn other road users of approaching response vehicles at signalized intersections and to provide faster emergency response times. E-ITS is the result of further technical enhancements developed by JPL. The California Institute of Technology licensed this technology exclusively to E-ViEWS in return for an equity interest.

E-ITS encompasses a rich array of computer, communications, and transportation components integrated together to make emergency response quicker, safer, and more robust. Components include emergency vehicle warning systems, fleet management with intelligent routing, wide-area secure communication networks, and command center applications.

Siemens ITS ( http://www.itssiemens.com/ ) is part of a global organization that develops and integrates advanced transportation management systems -- from traffic signals to traffic management centers and from planning to operations and maintenance. It offers a diverse range of consulting services and products to federal, state, and local governments based on open systems architecture and industry standards.
