Black Duck Software, the leading provider of software compliance management solutions, today announced the Company's flagship product, protexIP, won the Best of Show Award at the Corporate & Channel Computing Expo (C3), which opened Tuesday at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. The product won in the "Hottest New Idea" Category and was one of only eight winners in the competition.
"The C3 Best of Show Awards recognize the most innovative products shown at the exhibition," said Mark Dineen, vice president and show director for C3. "Black Duck stood out for its innovative and effective approach to a growing problem. Managing and tracking the intellectual property status of all the components in software is an increasingly difficult challenge for companies. Our judges were very impressed with the automation and accuracy Black Duck's solution brings to this important area of compliance."
Development teams, legal advisors and corporate managers use Black Duck's protexIP to work through the increasingly complex IP issues that can impact the value of software assets. protexIP provides them with an effective platform for identifying and remedying any licensing issues that may arise. With protexIP, companies can gain maximum value from their software assets while minimizing business risks.
"This award is additional validation that software compliance management is rapidly becoming essential to the business community," said Chris MacKenzie, vice president of marketing at Black Duck Software. "C3 applies to a variety of different industries and has a broad impact on the technology community. Winning this award underscores the impact and value Black Duck's software compliance solutions are delivering to companies in varied markets. Any company that builds, buys or deploys software can be exposed to significant risks stemming from software intellectual property problems. We provide very effective means for managing and avoiding such risks."
This year's judging team reviewed innovative and cutting-edge product submissions from a wide range of C3 exhibitors. Judges included: Tom Henderson, ExtremeLabs, Inc.; Joel Shore, Reference Guide; and Cheryl Currid, Currid and Company.
C3's selection of Black Duck Software for a Best of Show Award builds on a list of accolades for the company. In May, Red Herring recognized Black Duck Software for the 100 Private Companies of North America award. In February, the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) nominated the protexIP suite for a 2006 CODiE Award for best Software Development Solution. Additionally, CMP Media nominated the protexIP suite for a 2006 Jolt Award for Excellence in Quality Project Management.
