SAN FRANCISCO, June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today, the California Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee, voted 9-0 to support AB 2987, "The Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act of 2006," authored by Speaker of the Assembly, Fabian Nunez, (D - Los Angeles) and co-authored by Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee Chair, Lloyd Levine, (D - Van Nuys). The full Senate will now consider the bill.
AB 2987 seeks to modernize a decades-old regulatory process which serves as a barrier to video competition in California and replace it with a new state-issued authorization. The goals of the new legislation are to improve the state's broadband infrastructure, encourage investment and new jobs in the state, and speed the availability of innovative video technologies and new choices for consumers.
The following may be attributed to Ken McNeely, President, AT&T California:
"AT&T is very pleased with today's action by the Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities & Communications. The hard work of the author of the Legislation, Speaker Fabian Nunez, the chair of the committee, Senator Martha Escutia, and others brings Californians one step closer to the real consumer savings that choice and competition in the video services market will bring. We at AT&T look forward to providing this newer, faster, and more exciting technology."
