Vyvx Extends MPEG-2 Compressed Fiber Video Service in Canada, U.K.

Posted on: Monday, 19 April 2004, 06:00 CDT

LAS VEGAS, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- (NAB Booth #C3058) -- Vyvx, a market leader in providing fiber-optic and satellite transmission solutions to the media and entertainment industry for 15 years, announced today from the National Association of Broadcasters trade show that it has extended its compressed fiber video services to locations in Canada and the United Kingdom. Compressed video services allow broadcasters to select various bandwidth options for broadcast-quality video (MPEG-2) transmissions, giving them an elevated level of flexibility and cost efficiency.

Broadcasters can now transmit live, broadcast-quality video to and from locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, and London at 8 or 18 Mbps. The new service offers full PAL pass-through for seamless handling of various international broadcast transmission standards, and interconnects seamlessly with Vyvx's extensive domestic network, as well as the company's MPEG-2 Compressed Services to and from Japan, giving broadcasters global reach with the flexibility of compressed services.

"The expansion of our MPEG-2 Compressed Service into these new markets gives customers the advantage of multiple bandwidth options for their international broadcast backhauls, creating an elevated level of flexibility and the opportunity to reduce their overall costs," said Derek Smith, vice president of Vyvx. "We will continue to expand and enhance our services into new markets as our customers' needs continue to grow."

Customers interested in Vyvx's MPEG-2 Compressed Fiber Video Services or other services are invited to the Vyvx booth (#C3058) at the 2004 National Association of Broadcasters trade show this week in Las Vegas.

Vyvx's history and experience providing transmission services for live sports broadcasts is unmatched -- it was the first company to backhaul a video feed over fiber in 1989, and to transmit a live broadcast event over a fiber- optic network in 1990. Vyvx currently provides broadcast transmission services for nearly 10,000 live sports events per year. Overall, Vyvx provides nearly 200,000 video feeds for its customers annually, transmitting more than 12 million video minutes. For more information, please visit http://www.vyvx.com/ .
