Worldwide Survey Rates AT&T First for Global Network Services

Posted on: Wednesday, 7 April 2004, 06:00 CDT

LONDON, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Yankee Group, a global leader in communications and networking research, has published the results of its Global Network Strategies Survey in which respondents from over 1,000 multinational companies (MNCs) rate AT&T first for global network services.

At a regional level AT&T is the highest ranked global network provider in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia Pacific. Over 1,000 MNCs were surveyed around the world, including 395 in North America, 504 in Asia Pacific and 272 in Europe.

Commenting on the findings, Justin Sims, head of global sales for AT&T said, "AT&T has reinforced its commitment to maintaining our number one position worldwide through an aggressive growth strategy backed by ongoing investment in both global network infrastructure and advanced research in technology. We are proud to be leading the global trend to network integration with advanced infrastructure, technology and capabilities that cannot be matched by our competitors."

In ranking AT&T first for the provision of global network services, survey respondents indicated that the three most important factors in selecting a network service provider are the reliability and competence of the network, total price and the network provider's understanding of the respondents' business needs.

Convergence of voice and data is shown to be in the sights of most MNCs, with three out of every four committed to network integration. 40 percent of respondents are shown to be currently implementing integration of voice and data / IP networks, and a further 34 percent planning implementation in the next 12 months.

"IP traffic is expected to account for over 40 percent of total international network traffic by 2005," said Sims. "AT&T is one of the world's leading carriers of IP traffic. The latest survey results clearly prove that AT&T's global commitment to IP and convergent network services is leading the industry for reliability, price and security."

In the last two years, AT&T has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to deploy the latest technologies into its IP network to deliver the performance levels and security features required by businesses of all sizes. AT&T's IP Virtual Private Network service is provided over the AT&T Global Network, a global Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) based infrastructure, currently reaching 129 cities in 47 countries around the world.
