American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leading provider of system software, storage and computing innovations worldwide, today announced immediate support for the new Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processors.

"Mobile technologies are becoming more and more strategic for AMI as we go forward," said Subramonian Shankar, AMI founder and CEO. "We have been working for more than five years with premier notebook manufacturers to ship mobile products faring among the best available on the market. We are ready to support Intel's latest mobile processors, while actively working with Intel for upcoming chipsets with our AMIBIOS8 system software."

AMIBIOS8 is available in mobile configuration to support the three new processors introduced today, the Pentium M processors 755, 745 and 735, formerly known under the codename "Dothan." The new chips, offering enhanced performance for mobile PCs, have already been integrated in a number of mobile platform designs that will be available shortly, among which lightweight notebooks from Uniwill, Twinhead and ECS.

"Uniwill's upcoming slim, lightweight notebooks based on Intel's Pentium M processor offer customers high performance and usability. AMIBIOS8 adds reliability and manageability to our mobile designs and provides an easy-to-use development platform," said Chris Han, product manager at Uniwill.

"Twinhead's lightweight notebooks always offers to customers the highest standards in terms of technology, performance and reliability. AMIBIOS8 helps us to implement Intel's Pentium M processor innovations to their full extent," stated Joyce Liao, product manager at Twinhead.

Jerry Hsu, senior product manager at ECS, added: "The upcoming ECS G220 notebook offers customers the most advanced mobile technology and are based on Intel's Pentium M processor 755, featuring enhanced processor performance for mobile PCs. The AMIBIOS8 firmware offers an ideal, easy environment for platform development."

AMIBIOS8 advantages for mobile platform designers include in-house designed embedded controller firmware, support for enhanced Intel(R) SpeedStep technology, S4 ACPI support and easy integration of pre-boot applications such as diagnostics and multimedia, software recovery and web-browser.

AMIBIOS8 offers modular BIOS solutions addressing the mobile, server and desktop markets. The software modular architecture is a great advantage to embedded platform manufacturers that need to integrate mobile and server technologies.
