Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP) today announced that the NetApp(R) FAS250 iSCSI storage array has achieved the Microsoft Simple SAN for Windows Server Component designation for the Storage Array category. The Microsoft Simple SAN for Windows Server Component designation validates NetApp storage effectiveness and ease of use and reaffirms the company's commitment to tightly integrating with Microsoft storage technologies and the Microsoft Windows Server platform. NetApp provides customers with powerful and easy-to-use iSCSI and Fibre Channel storage array solutions for Windows environments that increase data accessibility and availability to provide unmatched simplicity and productivity for Windows environments. Achieving the Microsoft Simple SAN for Windows Server Component designation for the Storage Array category demonstrates to the market that NetApp and Microsoft are providing scalable and powerful storage solutions that integrate well in Windows environments.
"Microsoft is happy to announce that the NetApp FAS250 iSCSI storage system has achieved the Microsoft Simple SAN for Windows Server Component designation for the Storage Array category," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, group product manager, Windows storage technologies at Microsoft Corporation. "Microsoft is committed to supporting storage solutions for our customers that work seamlessly on the Windows Server platform, and having the NetApp FAS250 iSCSI storage array achieve Microsoft Simple SAN for Windows Server Component designation is a good example of this commitment."
The NetApp FAS250 system is an economical, enterprise-class storage solution. Based on an innovative hardware design that shrinks the traditional storage controller to a form factor that fits within a single storage shelf, the FAS250 provides all of the software functionality enabled by Data ONTAP(R) and is completely compatible with, and upgradeable to, the full range of NetApp systems.
Additionally, when used in conjunction with NetApp data manageability software, the NetApp FAS250 storage array supports several Microsoft storage technologies, including its iSCSI Software Initiator, Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO), Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), and Virtual Disk Service (VDS) 1.1. Support of these important Microsoft storage technologies helps storage administrators rapidly provision, deploy, and restore data within minutes. The NetApp FAS250 iSCSI storage system also leverages NetApp RAID-DP(TM) and FlexVol(TM) storage technologies, which dramatically increase storage system uptime and utilization and thereby drive down storage costs in Windows environments.
"NetApp is committed to providing powerful, scalable, and simple-to-use storage arrays for use in Windows environments to our customers and partners," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Alliances at Network Appliance. "Achieving the Microsoft Simple SAN for Windows Server Component designation for the FAS250 gives our customers an easy-to-use primary storage solution while also providing high uptime and availability for their Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005."
The NetApp FAS250 iSCSI storage array is the first NetApp storage array to receive a Microsoft Simple SAN for Windows Server Component designation. Using FAS250 storage systems, customers are provided a powerful and simple storage solution for their Microsoft applications environment.
