Aprio and Silicon Canvas Present DFM-Aware Layout Product

Posted on: Monday, 10 July 2006, 09:00 CDT

As part of a series of announcements, Aprio Technologies Inc. and Silicon Canvas today disclosed collaboration to provide a design for manufacturability (DFM) aware layout product.

By integrating Aprio's Halo(TM)-Quest and associated DFM View into the Silicon Canvas Laker suite of layout tools, custom designers are able to quickly analyze the impact of lithography on their IP or full-chip design during layout development. (See related press announcement dated July 10, 2006: "Aprio's Halo-Quest Yields Highly Accurate Silicon Image Data.")

Using the version of Laker with the Halo-Quest interface, designers can see and repair lithography errors, or hot spots that may not be easily correctable or correctable at all by the application of optical proximity correction (OPC) at their target fab. The product categorizes hot-spot failure mechanisms and recommends repair schemes for those that have the highest probability of creating yield or performance issues. Layout designers are able to reduce potential yield or performance problems in advance of submitting the design to their target foundry.

"The adoption rate of Laker for IP and SoC design has been growing," said Hau-Yung Chen, president of Silicon Canvas. "With the addition of Aprio's Halo-Quest, the user has one more choice among other available lithography awareness solutions. I am confident that Laker will become the most powerful platform for designs at 90nm and below."

"Our alliance with Silicon Canvas enables IP and chip designers to analyze and optimize their application considering litho effects," said Mike Gianfagna, president and chief executive officer of Aprio Technologies. "Through the use of our DFM View, we are able to offer a powerful solution to maximize yield, predictability and performance without disrupting the current design flow."

An initial product demonstration will be provided in Aprio's booth (3072) at this year's Design Automation Conference, to be held at San Francisco's Moscone Center from July 24 through 27, 2006. Product availability for the integrated application is expected in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2006.

Through a series of announcements today, Aprio(TM) unveiled its roadmap for the delivery of a comprehensive DFM solution, spanning both manufacturing and design applications. Aprio's approach takes aim at the inadequate communication that exists today between integrated circuit design and manufacturing teams. By partnering with key suppliers in the design-to-manufacturing chain, Aprio plans to enable improvements in chip predictability, performance and yield with minimal impact to current design and manufacturing work flows.

About Aprio

Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, Aprio Technologies Inc. is a leader in design-for-manufacturability (DFM) solutions that ensure successful design and fabrication of nanometer technology semiconductors. At the core of Aprio's offerings is its unique capability to provide correct and accurate information; to designers about manufacturing issues, and to manufacturing engineers about design intent. Aprio's products leverage this capability to help our customers create more reliable and better yielding semiconductors without the need for dramatic changes to their existing design or tapeout flows.
