Posted on: Monday, 24 May 2004, 06:00 CDT
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Cavium Networks, the cost and performance leader in security processing, today announced NITROX XL Secure Network Interface Card (NIC) Family, the industry's highest performing secure GbE NIC family in a standard PCI-X card form-factor. The NITROX XL Secure NIC Family is a versatile adaptor family with 1 to 4 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces that utilizes Cavium Networks NITROX II In-line security processor to significantly accelerate IPsec, SSL and Wireless LAN security processing, offload TCP functions and support both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic in enterprise server and appliance configurations. Additionally Intoto, a leading provider of security software solutions, is delivering iGateway, a full-featured, robust VPN software platform with support for the NITROX XL Secure NIC Family. The NITROX XL Secure NIC solution is ideally suited to delivering gigabit-plus performance and dramatically offloading the server CPU for VPN, Wireless LAN, Storage and Server Load Balancing equipment.
NITROX II based Secure Multi-Gigabit NIC Family provides high performance, off-the-shelf solution
Driven by e-commerce, remote access, business-to-business transactions, and secure storage access -- security feature requirements for servers are rapidly increasing. However, encryption and packet-processing functions consume the majority of server CPU cycles. Off-loading security processing to an In-line security macro-processor enhances security performance by 10-20 times while dramatically freeing up the CPU to process other applications. Moreover, the NITROX XL NIC dramatically reduces the PCI-X bus utilization by up to 50% by combining both NIC and Security processing in one card instead of having two separate PCI cards. Cavium Networks NITROX XL Secure Multi-Gigabit NIC Family provides the industry's highest measured performance of up to 3.4 Gbps for IPsec protocol processing and 18,000 DH operations/second on a standard server platform. The NITROX XL NIC Family also offloads TCP functions, such as IP and TCP checksum and CRC calculation, further freeing up the server CPU.
Rich product features for Enterprise Server and Appliance Configurations
The NITROX XL Secure NIC Family is based on the CN2130 NITROX II Security Processor which is a member of the world's fastest Security Processor Family from Cavium Networks. The Secure NIC has a rich feature set that includes support for a broad range of symmetric encryption including DES, 3DES, AES (all modes up to 256 bit) and ARC4, as well as asymmetric encryption including RSA and Diffie Hellman. Unique in-line capabilities such as layer 2 and 3 header parsing enable support for a broad range of traffic types. The NIC Family includes standard 64-bit PCI-X/PCI interface with support for 33/66/100/133 MHz bus speeds. The product has been designed with support for both copper and fiber network interfaces and is IEEE 802.3z and 802.3ab Gigabit Ethernet compliant. In order to provide flexibility to customers, the NIC family comes with or without DDR memory. For more information, please visit http://www.cavium.com/NITROX-II-Secure-NIC .

The Cavium Networks development kit for the NITROX XL Secure NIC Family includes Linux, FreeBSD and operating system independent drivers, debug utilities, APIs, and open-source implementation of IPsec/IKE stacks with both IPv4 and IPv6 support. Additionally, Intoto will deliver iGateway, a robust, full-featured VPN software platform optimized for in-line security processing. With this rich software and hardware solution, customers can quickly integrate the Secure Multi-Gigabit NIC into their system with minimal engineering effort.
Product Pricing and Availability
The NITROX XL Secure Multi-Gigabit NIC Family and the development kit is in production and available immediately. Intoto IPsec software support will be available in Q3 '04. Pricing for the NIC family ranges from $950 to $1,650 in 1KU quantities.
"The addition of the NITROX II Secure Multi-Gigabit NIC Family to our
award-winning security processor and board product portfolio delivers an
unmatched solution for gigabit-plus security applications," said
Rajiv Khemani, VP of Marketing of Cavium Networks. "This new product
family has dramatically raised the bar for performance and
price/performance for server security applications."
