Digeo Produces Universal Cable Platform With Availability of Moxi Media Center for Scientific-Atlanta Networks

Posted on: Monday, 3 May 2004, 06:00 CDT

NEW ORLEANS, THE NATIONAL SHOW (NCTA) and KIRKLAND, Wash., May 3

/PRNewswire/ -- Digeo, Inc., the leading provider of media center software and services, today announced the PowerKEY(R) version of the acclaimed Moxi(TM) Media Center, designed to run on digital cable networks from Scientific-Atlanta. Charter Communications, Inc. and Digeo also announced an order for 70,000 PowerKEY Media Centers.

Today's announcements make Moxi the most advanced cable platform to deliver an identical user-experience to customers on either Scientific-Atlanta or Motorola networks. With 99% of the hardware platform and software stack being common between these two systems, cable operators can leverage this commonality to realize operational, support and marketing economies of scale from offering the same product and services across their national footprint.

Consistency across both Moxi PowerKEY and Motorola BMC versions gives operators national reach for new revenue-generating media center-services, including high-definition TV (HDTV) watch-and-record digital video recording (DVR with two tuners), and eventually Jukebox, Photos, Games and home networking. By creating versions of the Moxi Media Center that are compatible with conditional access systems of either Scientific-Atlanta or Motorola networks, Digeo has established a universal cable platform for advanced services.

"Providing PowerKEY compatibility for the Moxi Media Center software confirms the strength of our reference design architecture, and highlights the benefits of partnering with Digeo to provide advanced services," said Jim Billmaier, Chief Executive Officer of Digeo. "The consistent Moxi platform provides cable operators with a mix of Scientific-Atlanta and Motorola deployments to unify and consolidate marketing, training, and support for advanced services across their national network."

"We are pleased to be innovating together with Digeo," said Bob Van Orden, Vice President Strategy & Product Planning of Scientific-Atlanta. "The ability to deploy the Moxi Media Center with PowerKEY gives a broader choice of options to the cable operator to compete with satellite and provide the latest technology to their customers."

Adding PowerKEY compatibility to the Moxi Media Center is an important step forward for Digeo's overall product strategy. Already deployed on Motorola-based systems, the availability of the Moxi Media Center for Scientific-Atlanta networks effectively doubles the potential deployment footprint of the Moxi platform.

The Moxi PowerKEY is currently scheduled for release in Fall 2004.

Charter Orders 70,000 Moxi PowerKEY Media Centers

Charter initiated commercial deployment of Moxi-powered Motorola Broadband Media Centers (BMC) in its Rochester, Minn. market in April 2004, and intends to begin rolling out the Moxi service to customers on Scientific-Atlanta PowerKEY networks in late 2004.

"With two established conditional-access systems, this agreement ensures Moxi deployment across both platforms," said Wayne Davis, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Technical Operations of Charter Communications. "We look forward to making the Moxi Media Center available to as many Charter customers as possible."
