Posted on: Tuesday, 11 May 2004, 06:00 CDT

Tokyo, Japan , Feb. 24, 2004 - (JCN Newswire) - Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724) has developed a new addition to its line of Mobile Graphics Engines for digital video recording and playback. The S1D13732 is an LCD controller that is ideal for mobile phones, PDAs, and other mobile information terminals equipped with a mega-pixel camera. Samples of the new product, which will be priced at 2,000, will begin shipping shortly.

The S1D13732 features faster processing speeds than the proven S1D13715, which is currently in production. The new LCD controller also provides hardware support for MPEG-4 functionality, as well as H.263, a digital video compression standard common in Europe. This LCD controller realizes reduced mobile phone power consumption, as the controller enables video recording and playback without the need to process software with a fast, power-hungry CPU.

The Mobile Graphics Engine series is a key product, and Epson will continue to support customers` requirements by further expanding this line of products for the feature-rich mobile phones of tomorrow.
