Streamload Web Services(TM) Launches for Developers and Corporate Partners

Posted on: Tuesday, 18 July 2006, 09:00 CDT

New Service Makes Storage-Dependent Applications, File Transfer and Media Transcoding Services a Reality Without Upfront Investment

Streamload, Inc., a leading provider of online digital media services, today announced the availability of Streamload Web Services(TM), an offering comprised of Streamload Storage and Processing Services (SPS) and the Streamload Platform application programming interface (API). Streamload's two distinct Web Services options enable developers to build software applications, Internet-connected hardware, and online services with a reliable and infinitely scalable data storage infrastructure and no upfront costs. Streamload Web Services(TM) is available today at http://webservices.streamload.com.

Through Streamload Web Services, developers and companies can now offer their customers around the world the capability to store their personal digital content, share their content without limits, collaborate, incorporate their own metadata (tags) and utilize their media on-demand from any platform or Internet-connected device.

Streamload SPS enables developers to easily and quickly build any application or online service that requires online storage, file transfer or media transcoding. Developers can also create their own pricing models and charge customers for the use of their service. Meanwhile, the cost of storage to the developer is as low as $.10 per GB of storage per month. Streamload SPS therefore provides both developers and their customers access to highly scalable, reliable, inexpensive and secure data storage without the risk of up-front network costs and large storage investments.

"After more than seven years of building and continually improving our online storage and file transfer architecture, we've built a platform that is incredibly secure, reliable and efficient," said Steve Iverson, president and CEO of Streamload. "Amazon entering the storage provider space with Amazon S3 is further validation online storage is becoming important to mainstream applications. It is clear consumers are hungry for Internet storage-intensive applications such as digital video sharing and remote media access."

Streamload Platform API, the second offering of Streamload Web Services, provides an easy way for corporations and individual developers to enhance MediaMax(TM), the online media center powered by Streamload. Streamload Platform API allows registered developers to create applications that can easily and securely store, access and share digital media. The API is free for developers to use, provides the developer's customers with 25 GB of free online storage, and also enables developers to earn commissions for exposing new users to MediaMax.

"The game changes for Internet services, software developers and consumer electronics manufacturers now that the barrier to entry is literally zero for reliable, secure and infinitely scalable storage and file transfer," said Adrian Herrera, Streamload's director of business development. "Our storage efficiency makes things very interesting, especially when you see how our unique technology translates into unbelievably low cost structures."

Streamload Web Services Applications

A wide array of mashups (web applications using content from more than one source) can be created using Streamload Web Services, such as adding video sharing to a photo sharing website, offering customized online music lockers as part of another online service, providing inexpensive online storage to customers or including unlimited file transfer on social networking websites.

Discovery Communications Inc. (parent of The Discovery Channel) tapped into Streamload Web Services SPS earlier this year with its first online viewer video submission project for a series of television shows on The Discovery Channel, The Travel Channel, TLC and Animal Planet. Similar applications are in the works for other media companies such as AMD, which just launched AMD Live! Media Vault, an online media storage, large file transfer and remote file access service for its new AMD Live! powered computers.

The success of these projects proves the virtually limitless opportunities for integrating online digital media storage and management into other applications and web sites. Such innovative applications of web services helps companies connect with consumers in new ways online.

About Streamload Web Services

Streamload began leveraging its own Web Services platform with the launch of MediaMax(TM) in early 2006. Streamload is now delivering on the promise of web services, where web-based applications, software applications and consumer electronic devices can dynamically interact with efficient storage, file transfer and file processing technologies.

The Streamload online storage platform is currently managing more than 550 terabytes of unique user data, more than 8 billion files and is growing at a rate of one terabyte of new files stored each day.

About Streamload

Streamload is a leading provider of online digital media services. The company was founded in June 1998 by an innovative group of software engineers who had the foresight to see that existing technologies offered too little capacity and speed to send, receive or access large files easily.
