VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display of America, Inc., the number one stand-alone vendor of flat panel desktop displays, announced today at the annual meeting of the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR 2004) a strategic partnership with Richardson Electronics, Ltd., a global provider of engineered solutions for the medical display systems market, to deliver NEC MultiSync MD Series displays as part of integrated display solutions.
"We have enjoyed a longstanding alliance with NEC-Mitsubishi," said Gerry McGinley, medical business unit manager of Richardson Electronics. "Since 1998 Richardson has launched several initiatives with the company, including the introduction of the 80 Series monitor line for medical imaging and Integration Select program. There is great anticipation in the market for NEC-Mitsubishi's MultiSync MD line and we look forward to taking the next step forward together."
NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display and Richardson Electronics will bring together leading display expertise and the new medically certified high- resolution LCD grayscale monitors to deliver superior clinical viewing capabilities to the rapidly growing diagnostic imaging market. Having gained extensive experience selling NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display products into medical environments where they are often used in PACS configurations, Richardson Electronics will hit the ground running with the latest MD Series displays. Rolling out this fall, the new monitor line will offer a 21.3-inch 2 and 3 megapixel grayscale display with enhanced black level adjustment for easy control of superior grayscale images, ideal for medical-specific uses such as X-ray photo viewers, GammaComp(TM) technology for smooth, accurate grayscales, ultra-thin frame designs for less distraction when viewing images side-by-side, an internal power supply and an anti-glare/low reflection SA-IPS module for the widest viewing angles with minimal off-angle color shift.
"Through our partnership with Richardson Electronics, we are able to extend the reach of NEC-Mitsubishi's latest medical displays so that more healthcare providers can benefit from our longstanding leadership history in display technologies. Not only will we introduce new features and benefits to the medical grade marketplace, but we will also extend some of our current design elements to this new line which will help medical professionals with ease of use," said Todd Fender, senior product manager at NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display of America, Inc. "This agreement is a win-win situation for both partners, enabling us to help customers implement and operate display systems that provide patients with leading imaging diagnostics and increased service efficiencies."
NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display's X-Light(TM) backlight system in the MD Series monitors offers a number of advantages over competing medical LCD displays including enhanced control over the whitepoint, which can be adjusted to defined specifications in parallel with brightness levels. As the varying reduction in light intensity within the visible light spectrum is automatically adjusted during long-term operation, tolerances are eliminated and the whitepoint is kept constant over a long period of time. In addition, X-Light technology allows for easy multiple monitor matching and is highly efficient for use in larger radiology departments and their IT infrastructure in hospitals.
