Siemon Launches Network Cabling Solution

Posted on: Monday, 10 May 2004, 06:00 CDT

IN anticipation of bandwidth explosion over the Internet, Siemon Company recently announced its latest network cabling solution, the 10 G ip.

Robert Y. Faber Jr, the company's registered communications distribution designer/local area network (RCDD/LAN) specialist, said growth in Internet protocol (IP)-based network applications is centred around two core areas - security and productivity.

Additional leading IP applications include video-conferencing, voice over IP and IP-based distance learning, which require more bandwidth.

"Independent studies show that 31 per cent of companies are using one- gigabit Ethernet. About 73 per cent plan to adopt 1Gb Ethernet in less than five years while 26 per cent are expected to adopt 10Gb Ethernet in less than five years," Faber said.

The increase in deployment of 10Gb Ethernet for carriers is also a strong indication of carriers anticipating client needs, he added."10G services and IP applications clearly have arrived. The trend is towards consuming more bandwidth. When bandwidth becomes available, software manufacturers design applications to fill the need in the market."

The new 10 G ip solution features Siemon GB/s XGLO fibre products, Tera copper cabling system and 10G 6 Category 6 (6e) cabling system. The XGLO fibre cabling features single-mode and multi-mode LC and SC style laser optimised components and is designed for applications ranging from 1Gb to 10Gb backbones to fibre to the desk.

It also meets the specifications for laser bandwidth differential mode delay.

Tera is ideal for multimedia transmission over a single shielded twisted pair (STP) and is capable of handling voice, data and video simultaneously over a single horizontal link. It also offers full compliance to new international class F, category 7 and broadcast communications technologies standards.

The 10G 6 provides category 6/class E transmission performance and is able to deliver usable bandwidth up to 625 megahertz.

The cabling solution is available locally from Pernec Technologies Sdn Bhd.

Pernec Technologies's chief operating officer, Mohd Yusof Abdul Mutalib, said there is an emerging technology for 10Gb Ethernet due to the rise in Internet traffic and construction, thus increasing the need for infrastructure.

Pernec's main target markets cover enterprises, government agencies and construction companies.
