EZ Connect(TM) Wireless Cable Modem Router with DOCSIS(R) 1.1 cable connectivity, integrated 4-port switch and 802.11g access point certified in first wave of CableLabs(R)' CableHome(TM) 1.1 tests
SMC(R) Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e and all the way home, today announced the company's EZ Connect(TM) Wireless Cable Modem Router, SMC8013WG, has received CableHome(TM) 1.1 certification from CableLabs(R).
CableHome is the CableLabs' home networking specification designed to allow cable operators to extend high-quality, managed, value-added broadband services to subscribers over any available home network media in a fashion that is as convenient as possible for the consumer. CableHome has specifications for interoperability, QoS and network management to ensure effective connectivity as cable-delivered broadband services are delivered throughout the home. CableHome 1.1, released last year, builds on the original CableHome 1.0 with improved residential gateway security features, introduces standardized prioritized Quality-of-Service for home LANs, and adds support for home servers, telecommuters and home offices. The SMC EZ Connect Wireless Cable Modem Router (SMC8013WG) that combines DOCSIS(R) 1.1 cable connectivity, an integrated 4-port switch and an 802.11g access point in one device to distribute broadband connectivity throughout the home or office was certified on April 27, among the first to be certified under the CableHome 1.1 specification.
"SMC understands what's important in residential broadband -- both to MSOs and to end consumers. For MSOs, CableHome 1.1 certification means efficient installation and management of the residential gateway device, plus the ability to provide QoS on the home network," said Michael Harris, principal analyst at broadband research firm Kinetic Strategies Inc.
"As adoption of broadband continues to grow, home and small business users want to share connections, and they want those connections to be secure and reliable," said SMC's vice president for worldwide product marketing, Tony Stramandinoli. "The SMC8013WG's integrated 4-port switch and 802.11g wireless access point bring users more than just broadband connectivity -- the SMC8013WG becomes the heart of a fully functioning network. And CableHome 1.1 certification means that MSOs and their customers can be assured that that network will be reliable, interoperable and secure."
The new EZ Connect SMC8013WG Wireless Cable Modem Router is available to end users through their cable operators.
