AsiaInfo Wins Multiple Contracts from China Unicom And Subsidiaries

Posted on: Thursday, 26 June 2003, 06:00 CDT

BEIJING & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2003--AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASIA), a leading provider of telecom network and software solutions in China, today announced that it has signed a contract with China Unicom to upgrade its UniNet-based email system. Under separate contracts, two China Unicom subsidiaries, Henan Unicom and Hubei Unicom, have also contracted AsiaInfo to support the third phase of their provincial UniNet construction.

Anticipating more than 12 million UniNet users by the end of 2003, China Unicom contracted AsiaInfo earlier this year to deploy customized software solutions along with necessary equipment to improve UniNet's capacity, security, and MPLS-VPN (Multiple Protocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network) services. The new contract is aimed at further developing UniNet's email capacity by allowing the interactive sending and retrieving of emails via Short Message Services (SMS). AsiaInfo will also help to upgrade and expand Henan Unicom and Hubei Unicom's provincial UniNet, with a focus on enhancing their network operation and security management capabilities. China Unicom has awarded all of its previous backbone expansion contracts to AsiaInfo.

In addition to China Unicom's UniNet, AsiaInfo has designed and implemented most of China's major commercial Internet backbones and IP networks, including ChinaNET, China's first commercial Internet backbone, and China Mobile's CMCCNet, China Netcom's CNCNet, and China Railcom's RailNet.

"We are proud to be selected again by China Unicom as its preferred partner," said Xingsheng Zhang, President and Chief Executive Officer of AsiaInfo. "Our customers' trust and confidence is built on our ability to continuously offer high performing solutions and quality services, and it is critical to securing long-term recurring revenue streams. Our advantage lies in our customer installation base and market penetration and we are determined to continue delivering the best technologies tailored to best meet customers' needs."
