Net Optics Introduces New GigaBit Port Aggregator With SFP Monitor Ports

Posted on: Friday, 4 August 2006, 09:00 CDT

Net Optics, the global leader in passive monitoring access for network security and monitoring, announced its new GigaBit Port Aggregator Tap with SFP Monitor Ports. The addition of two small form factor pluggable (SFP) monitor ports to Net Optics' field-proven Port Aggregator Tap gives network managers greater flexibility when connecting monitoring devices to gigabit fiber networks. Tapping bi-directional traffic and aggregating it into a single flow makes is easier to connect IDS and IPS devices, which often have only a single NIC. Customers can start with one gigabit copper SFP and expand to a second when the need arises. Conversion Kits for both gigabit copper and fiber SFPs are also available from Net Optics.

Net Optics' GigaBit Port Aggregator platform provides network security and monitoring devices passive access to a full-duplex link using only one NIC. Aggregating the full-duplex link into a single flow permits efficient use of limited NICs on security and monitoring devices. Devices connected to a link through the GigaBit Port Aggregator receive 100 percent of network traffic in real time, including Layer 1 and Layer 2 errors. To help avoid dropped traffic during transient spikes in traffic volume, the GigaBit Port Aggregator comes standard with 256 megabytes of buffer memory.

"As networks grow over time, we often see a mix of topologies and line speeds throughout the enterprise network. Building SFP capability into our GigaBit Port Aggregator gives network managers an access point to network traffic that is adaptable to future needs," said Bob Shaw, CEO of Net Optics. "Providing our customers with an efficient passive access point for existing and legacy devices that can change with the network just makes good sense."

For extra uptime protection, Net Optics GigaBit Port Aggregator offers redundant power supplies. Should the primary power source fail, the GigaBit Port Aggregator automatically switches to the secondary power source.
