ATLANTA, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- First Mile Communications, a provider of high-capacity broadband wireless solutions, today announced it has entered into a services agreement allowing First Mile to provide communications services to Georgia Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company.
As part of the agreement, First Mile Communications will provide broadband fixed wireless services from Georgia Power's headquarters, a 27-story building located in downtown Atlanta, to its Metro East Region headquarters, located at 760 Ralph McGill Boulevard in Atlanta. Georgia Power will use this broadband wireless connection to support voice and data communications for 150 employees in its Metro East Region headquarters.
"We are pleased to offer these services to Georgia Power and appreciate the confidence they have in First Mile as a provider of high-capacity voice and data transport services," said R. Stanley Allen, president of First Mile Communications.
This agreement establishes Georgia Power's headquarters as a primary hub site for additional broadband wireless connections. From this location, First Mile will be able to reach more than 1,500 buildings within a five-mile radius. First Mile also will be able to connect carrier and enterprise customers from Georgia Power's headquarters building to any number of carrier hotels via fiber provided by Southern Telecom, another wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company.
"Having the Georgia Power headquarters building as a primary hub site in conjunction with First Mile enables us to offer our current and future customers affordable and reliable expanded fixed wireless reach into areas of downtown and midtown Atlanta," said Ben Easterling, business development manager for Southern Telecom. "From this site, Southern Telecom and First Mile will be able to offer reliable high-capacity broadband wireless services to more than 6,000 businesses housed in buildings within a five-mile radius through Southern Telecom's new Wireless Lateral (TM) service offering."
