Dell'Oro Group Forecasts Expanding Service Provider Router Market Through 2010; Sales of Edge Routers to Outpace Core Router Starting in 2007

Posted on: Tuesday, 8 August 2006, 12:00 CDT

According to a recent report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for information about the networking and telecommunications industries, the worldwide service provider router market will increase 20 percent in 2006 to more than $5 billion, and then continue expanding annually through 2010. The report indicates that over the next five years, sales of edge routers will grow faster than core routers, as service providers construct networks that can deliver new, revenue-generating services such as VoIP and IPTV.

"Service providers are shifting their investments towards the next generation of edge routers to build reliable, feature-rich, high-speed networks," said Shin Umeda, Principal Analyst of Routers Research at Dell'Oro Group. "The end-game for them is to be able to sell additional, high-value services to the growing broadband customer base," added Umeda.
